    code 14

i checked the codes on my wifes 1986 colony park 5.0 and the reader came with a code 11 which is good but also a code of 14. what is a code 14. the merc runs the same as it always had and cant tell a difference. i also cleared the code and drove it for a few miles then checked the computer again and got just a code 11. Is this code 14 some thing to worry about if it comes back as its my wifes dd and need it running in top condition. thanks

It also has a newer pick up coil that was changed a year ago along with ingnition module, and the timing is set at 10.

14 means the PIP sensor was sending a weird signal or dropped out unexpectedly. This code can be set if the engine stalls for some reason. It can also be set by a bad ignition module (yeah... they can die pretty quick sometimes) or PIP sensor. The PIP is the sensor INSIDE the distributor that the ignition module plugs into.

It might be worth it just to clear the codes and see if it comes back. If you're having driveability issues (like severe bogging) or random stalling, the PIP may be on it's way out or the thermal grease on the ignition module needs to be replaced.

thanks guys. it drives perfect and i asked the wife if it stalled or has miss fired at all and she said no. i did notice the wires going to the module look kinda bad. i still one day would like to get a used engine wiring harness as all the wires dont look so good. ill check the codes again when she gets home.

it may just be old codes then. might just clear the codes and see if it comes back.

you cant get an 11 and anything else, unless its during 2 different tests. An 11 key on, engine off and a 14 for stored codes is perfectly possible tho. If thats the case, just clear it and see if it comes back. It probably will not. Usually when you get that code, its either running screwed up, or not running at all.

I've had that code before. The computer was bad. Ignition module and such were fine.

you can get 11 and then 14 in memory (BTDT). that's what I think the OP has going on.
