1991 GM has shifting problem...advice please

I filled up with gas last week. Car drove fine up to the gas station up until I left the gas island. The motor wound up with little power. The transmission did not shift correctly. Drove it home and parked it. Drove again this morning. Transmission doesn't down shift if you floor it and the motor seems to go flat with little power. If you give it light throttle it seems to have power enough to drive. On my way to the transmission shop next to work. Any ideas? TPS? throttle bushing?

    thank you,
    Mike

I would SURELY be looking at the tranny bushing IMMEDIATELY. Replace it before the AOD gets chewed up and don't drive the car till its checked. A brass one can be found and is the best replacement. Bobby

      +1
Check that bushing at the throttle body, and DON'T drive it until you have checked like miamibob said.
Here's a link to the one that I got last week, http://www.ebay.com/itm/251052951610...S:3160&vxp=mtr
but if you don't have time to wait for shipping you may need to hit the JY or Dealership.

Thank you Gents. You are both right. At the transmission shop we noticed the cable fell off. There was no bushing. Darn, I have two brass bushing lost in the garage somewhere. I will not drive it until then. I hope the dealer will have one.

Don't despair! I have seen a short drive "smoke" the tranny, under these conditions, but also be fine after replacing the bushing. Try it and see how the car runs - hopefully you got lucky!! Bobby

Got it back. I bought the throttle bushing from the local Ford dealer. The trans shop put it in and adjusted it for.......He handed me the keys and I said "How much I owe you?" He replied whatever you want. I gave him $40.00 he was happy and so was I.

I didn't burn it up and they were not dishonest and say I needed more work. The same transmission shop rebuilt the tranny 3 years ago for $700.00. I've been abusing it heavily ever since. Two years ago, when I put the HO motor in the trans would skip 2nd gear and wind up in to third. The trans shop said probably the modulator was sticking. They removed the tail housing and replaced the modulator. When I picked it up Omar said $60.00. You have to love honest people and also a very honest business. When the trans finally gives up I am wanting to have them add the wide ratio gears and build it up tougher.

Are there any special parts/components I should request in the build when adding the WR gear set?

My thanks to you guys again!

What would a "modulator" be on an AOD? Unless they were referring to the governor ....

Brain fart again. Too much work, inventory time and CRS Syndrome.
Yes, I believe its the governor I meant to say.
