Hi, Just bought 1994 Grand Marquis. Rides nice, motor purrs. It has 138,000 miles on it. Wondering what would be the ideal motor oil for it. Some oil change places advertise, "Hi mileage oil", I checked with them and it's a 10w-30w oil. Would that be OK. I thought maybe a heavier oil should be used, at least 10w-40w. What are your suggestions? Thanks, Ed

Hi Ed,
Welcome to the site. I wouldn't think you'd need to go with 10w-40 oil. The early 4.6's that our NC Highway Patrol used popped oil filters when using 15w-40. I believe these early engines used 5w-30. My 03 Mustang Mach 1 is a 4.6 DOHC and Ford spec's 5w-20 for it. Think the previous owner used Mobil One in it so that's all I've ever used in it. Welcome to the site!! Guess you have what all these guys call an "Aero". All of my Panthers are 5.8L (351W) "boxes". Stan

5w-20 do not use 10w-40 in a 4.6.2020 Volvo XC90 T6 Momentum (Ice White / Blonde)

Thanks guys for the info. Even tho it's a 20 year old car, it's still new compared to my other car, a 47 Plymouth. I use Rotlla T 15w-40 oil, which has zinc. I guess the more modern, later cars, didn't need zinc as much as the older ones. But, I'm curious, what would happen if I put the Rotell T in the 94 Marquis? Ed

if you hear constant tapping with 5w20, switch to 5w30. (this probably won't be an issue)

Lincoln logs into stock dual exhaust. K&N drop in air filter. Wide ratio AOD, 2400 converter with a 3.08 one tire fire out back. Car is less slow now. Then there's the '92 Beater. Dual 2.25" exhaust with shiny tips. Rumbles nice. Super slow. Burns oil too.
