why the hell does bob know so much about oil?
personally i see absolutely no difference, oil is oil, a filter is a filter, keep it full and clean that's the key to engine life.

This is one reason I warm my vehicles up to 150 ish degrees before moving. Most cases once I TAKE OFF TRY TO KEEP SPEEDS AS LOW AS POSSIBLE FOR A WHILE. A couple of my vehicles warming to 150 then hitting 55 oil pressure will be up around 100psi. Even on a summer day my oil temp takes quite a bit of time before the needle hits 100*Scars are tatoos of the fearless

I used to buy the Stupertech oil for like 10 bucks a case. At the time I drove a car that lost a quart every 200 miles, so cheap oil was important.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

you can still buy recycled oil, but its actually more expensive than virgin oil. I want to say its a Valvoline thing. Can't quite get my head around paying more for recycled oil. I'd buy it for the lawnmower and such if it was cheap.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Honestly, it wasn't THAT long ago, less than 10 years, that oil could still be had for less than 2 bucks a quart. The off-brands sometimes as little as a dollar a quart.
Now even regular dino-oil typically runs 4-5 bucks per quart.
Typically I'll get the 5-quarts-plus-a-filter deal. And sometimes the semi-synthetic, or on occasion even the full synthetic stuff, in the 5-quarts-plus-filter deal, will be only slightly more than dino-oil.
Weird.
Just changed my oil yesterday. Pennzoil 5W-30 dino oil. Car so far seems to sound and behave about the same, but of course, I've only driven it for 20 minutes so far.
Maybe when the sales hit, I'll go with synthetic-blend or full-synthetic at 0W-30 and see how it goes.Last edited by King_V; 04-01-2014, 10:35 AM.1987 Ford LTD Crown Victoria 2-door Coupe - perpetually "sort of" for sale...

$25.17 for 5+ quarts. This is the 15,000 mile or 12 month oil. It is called "Extended Performnce" Also in the other weights, 5-20 etc. Hard to beat those prices. Only one oil change a year for me (per car)
