    My '90 idles high and surges at idle. Sounds like a similar thing. Going to work on her this weekend so i'll clean the shit out of the IAC and probably do a tune-up on the old gal anyway. Might tackle the odometer gear swap but having trouble finding the thread with the search feature. Anybody got a link? I'll look again, stumbled across it by accident before so maybe i'll accidentally do something right again. Biggest thing right now is the shocks. They are just downright frightening. Got KYB's to go in on Saturday.

      I don't have a write up, but here's a bunch of pics. It's pretty self explanatory, pop off the headlight knob (friction clip) remove the trim, remove the cluster, disassemble, remove the old broken gears, install the new ones and reassemble.
