Fuel or fire. If it sparks strong it may not be the ignition module. If no spark, almost definitely the module or pickup.

Sounds more like ignition, but it would be worth listening for the pump just to make sure it hasn't fucked off on you. Not to say it can't get weak, but if it makes any noise at all, it usually will make enough pressure to at least start and die.

Yeah, I don't have a spare distributor to swap in unfortunately. I'm grabbing BWD stuff from work since I can have it on hand this evening so I can mess with things in the morning.

I'm going to try swapping in the TFI, pickup, rotor, and cap.

Wish you told me code 18 - that is 99% likely TFI failure. Lol

That TFI is not OEM. Some aftercheezy that came with the car.

Grabbed BWD components and TFI tool from work (all have lifetime warranties) and swapped components on this morning. New TFI, cap, and rotor has me back in the game! I did all my work in the car, didn't need to pull the distributor.

I used Artic Silver 5 heat sink compound on the module versus the grease included with it. Hope that helps for now. I'll likely plan to do a TFI remote mount setup in the future, but things are good for now.

Thanks to everyone that gave input here. I'm still learning my way around the 302.

sweet! Yeah I need to do the remote mod on both of mine at some point; if for no other reason then to make swapping them easier LOL. And all the stuff you replaced probably needed replaced anyways, do plugs and wires and you will be good to go!

Sweet. Always nice when the OP reports back what the fix was. In my trolling I see so many threads that have no answers, especially with Chevy related problems. Glad it was just the TFI. My luck always has me replacing the suspected offender only to replace whatever else is connected to that so I just replace all of it when it fails to save time.

Derek, like the time I replaced the TFI on the side of the road only to find out about a mile down the road that the problem was not the TFI. Low mileage JY dizzy fixed the problem the following weekend.
After that I modified a little bit of wiring and installed a stock remote mount setup from a '92+ F150, which so far has worked great. The TFI mounting bracket came from a cougar/Tbird and I've since moved it to a better location on the front of the rad/header pannel support.

                  Yeah, exactly like that!
Most recently, we bought an '89 K1500 and decided to give it plugs, wires, dizzy cap & rotor. Welp, changed all that and then it would start but wouldn't idle. Truck needed to run and drive the following morning so we had to run up to Autozone to buy an Indonesian distributor for the damn thing. Knew I should've pulled one at a yard when I had the chance but noooo, lets save money I thought. Still runs a bit weird, need to replace IDM module or whatever the f--- it is. Maybe. That or it doesn't like the Indonesian distributor so might just swap the yard unit I got in.

Yeah, that was a nice relocation job on your part.
