Ford sells the brass float for about 7 bucks.

          And yes, fuel straps SUCK.

Could I just take the Vic to a shop to do this? I have been really busy lately and don't have time to do this myself. How much money would I lose if I took it to a mechanic to do? I would like to do it my self but there are not enough hours in the day.

it takes 10 minutes to work on it. i put my car on ramps, and had it out real quick. it takes a lot longer to pull the tank and change the fuel pump. you can spend $80 on a mechanic for a 10 min job or do yourself.

Maybe an hour of labor, its not a big job. Why on earth someone would remove the float when changing the fuel pump confuses me. You don't need to pull the pump to change the float or vise-versa. You'll spend more time driving to a shop to get the thing fixed than it will take for you to just install the part. If the tank is already out, its like a 5 minute job. Maybe 10-15 if the tank is in.
