289's were badass.......dont see why it wouldnt work with efi if you go with maf

I've heard the 289 block had shorter cylinder walls and 302 guts wouldn't work in there because of that. But whatever I was reading said you could use 289 guts in a 302 block. This was in Mustang & Fords Magazine a couple years ago, but they have been known to be wrong before.

I've heard the 289 block had shorter cylinder walls and 302 guts wouldn't work in there because of that. But whatever I was reading said you could use 289 guts in a 302 block. This was in Mustang & Fords Magazine a couple years ago, but they have been known to be wrong before.
The cylinder skirts were extended on the 302 to handle the increased loads because of the .13" longer stroke. This does not mean that you will have a cylinder block failure if you run a 3" stroke in a 289 block. I have never heard of any problems with a 302 with a 289 block. I would have no worries doing so.
