I guess the fact is, if there's a motor oil on the shelf, it's met certain standards and probably won't cause your engine to blow up as long as you change it at regular intervals. Know what I mean?
I think you're right, but I believe there are huge differences in the quality of the oils and filters that all "meet the standards". It's those companies whose products meet and exceed standards that Im looking for.
Sent a can of Seafoam through the PCV hose (didn't even smoke that bad) then went w/ Mobil 1 synthetic and a Mobil 1 filter this last oil change.
