need some thoughts

so right now im in a bit of a conundrum, i would really like to get a panther to play around with and modify but i cant make up my mind on which one. the two biggest contenders right now are a super clean '89 GM(EFI 5.0 50,000 miles, near mint) or a Marauder. the GM i can buy right now and start working on this winter, the Marauder would have to wait at least till next spring/summer. the GM is $2500, and all the clean low miles Marauders ive been finding are all like 10K+. so i guess my real question is how good of a car(straight line speed,braking,cornering etc.) could i make the GM for about $7500? also which one simply has more potential? any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated

IMO id get the 89 mainly because 1. I like the boxes better than the aeros and or whales, and 2. the 5.0 is much easier to work on than a DOHC 4.6 also unless ive been missing something there is a much greater aftermarket for the 5.0 vs the 4.6. though i imagine you might be able to build more power from the 4.6 being overhead cam and all (someone correct me if im way out of line here). as far as what you could do for $7500 id say with parts prices and j/y finds you could do more to the box than the marauder as too which would be better as the end result well you'll have to leave that to the experts as im not one of them being that i still have much to learn.
