Since I cant find a good window motor for my passenger side door on my Lincoln.(I understand crown vic / marquis window motors are a bit differnt) I am going to attemp to take my window motor apart and clean it up. Im pretty sure its just seized. When I hit the swithc it draws alot of power so I assume the brushes are still makeing contact. I tryed tapping it a few times with a hammer but no differnce. How reliable do you think it would be with just a good cleaning, assuming the rest of it is in good shape. I would hate to get it to roll down then not go back up.

You can try. It can be disassembled realtively easily. I was going to r&r one, water got into it, rust city inside, and the glue holding the magnets to the case failed and where stuck to the rotor and came as one big lump.
Picture of your window motor? Maybe the only difference between the lincoln and cv/gm motor is the connector.

The plastic plugs will sometimes come apart and jam in the gear. I wouldn't be too surprised if thats what happened. If the magnets come out with the shell though, its junk. Handily, all of the motors are the same, its only the gearbox head thats slightly different. If you have another motor, you can swap the gearbox onto another unit to make it go again. Only 2 screws hold it together.
And yeah, Lincoln front motors are slightly different than others. The rear motors are the same as a Vic though. I have seen brand new front window motors at Autozone. They're a smaller later design, but they fit properly and seem to work OK.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Ok, I'll get the Motor pulled out of the door and take it apart and go from there, Im leaning towards the bushings like you guys say, Since when I hit the switch in dims the interior lights a fair bit. I should have a crown vic motor kicking around I can salvage for parts also

I've also had the plastic main gear shatter and jam one. new gear... problem fixed.

Window is working now. Didnt have to replace the motor, The window reg was just kinda sized up, lots of penitrating fluid, and grease fixed it. Rolls down good now but still have a tight spot when rolling it up. (About when the window gets half way up) So it should start working better with more use.
Oh and that is a pretty complicated looking window reg. my god

Gotcha. That'll tend to put a lot of drag on the guts of the thing. Does seem logical that once such a situation is discovered, the guts would typically be damaged to the point where regluing the magnets is pointless.2012 Mazda5 Touring | Finally working on the LTD again!

they usually aren't damaged but without a stationary magnetic field, it just doesn't work.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
