Well I found the newer chassis donor for the 54. Today I ran and picked up this 84 F250 4x4. This thing is a beast!

It has the 351W V8 I wanted, 4spd transmission, 3.54 geared rear with limited slip. The engine also has an Edelbrock Performer 4V intake, Edelbrock 4V carb, Edelbrock chrome air cleaner( very rusty ), A MSD 6A ignition box, full length headers and some cheap chrome valvecovers (which are leaking badly ) . It also has a pair of chrome air horns!

It runs good, great power, sounds good and drives good. I'm very happy with this truck. I just wish it was a regular cab instead of the extended cab. The 54 is going to have a long wheel base.

I'm going to swap in the Dana 60 front diff from my 87 F350 and the NP205 transfercase from my 78 F250 chassis.

Anyways here's a few pics. The first two are just after I bought it and got it loaded on the trailer. It was a tight fit on my trailer with those 12.5" wide tires.

And here's a front shot just after I got home. The picture is a little dark, because it was getting dark.

I have to say I love the sound of this engine! And the more I run it the more I believe it might of had a aftermarket cam swapped in sometime in the past. My previous 351W's didn't run this strong. It was also rebuilt sometime in the past. I tried to take some pictures of the engine but every single picture came out blurry.

It's not much to look at right now but I plan to do a lot of clean up, painting and some different valve covers. But first I'm going to have some fun driving it!

This really is a neat project. Kudos to you for posting it. I've been following it since you've started it, and this has helped inspire me to try my hand at putting my 1957 Dodge D100 onto a newer chassis. Keep the updates comin!

Right now I'm pretty much broke after buying the 87 F350 4x4 and the 84 F250 4x4. And I've got way too many vehicles now. So now it's time to raise some cash to buy more parts and supplies. So I'm going to start stripping and parting out the 87 F350, the 78 F250 chassis and the 84 F250. I'm going to start with the 78 chassis and then go to the 87 F350.

Oh yea and I transferred the title on the 84 and got insurance on it so I can drive it while I'm stripping down the other trucks. So far I've only put 3 miles on it but they were fun!

Stay tuned I will post the progress as I work on it.

Yesterday I started stripping down the 87 F350. Today I did some more work on it. So far I've got the front clip pulled and tore down and the cab stripped and the front cab mounts unbolted. I tried to pulled the rear cab mount bolts but ran into a small issue. So I'll get them pulled tomorrow. And I'm also going to start cutting up the truck box tomorrow.

Today I did a little more destruction on the 87 F350 with Mr. Sawzall. I cut off the box sides and the cab's rocker panels. Once I get the windshield out I can cut up the rest of the cab.

I didn't work on it yesterday. I had to take a trip to deliver a couple parts I sold. Today I removed the rest of the box off the 87 and tried to knock as much of the mud/dirt off the rear section of the chassis. If it doesn't rain/snow tomorrow I'm going to cut up the rest of the cab.

I also swept off most of the dirt that was on the driveway.

Today I finished cutting up the 87 cab. This weekend I'm going to pull all the drivetrain parts off the frame. Then I'll cut it up to get the frame out of the way.:toothless

Well today I worked on getting the chassis stripped down. I pulled the driveshafts, all the wiring and a few other small items. I removed all the nuts on the front spring mounting points. I then removed the transmission and transfercase. Then I pulled all the front brake lines, proportioning valve master cylinder, etc. I pulled the front upper shock mounting bolts. Unbolted the steering box, pulled the PS pump pulley off and unbolted the pump. Then I cut and plugged the fuel lines. Hooked up the chain to the engine and moved the hoist into position and then pull the motor mount nuts. Then I pulled the engine out. By the time I got to this point it was getting dark so I called it quits for the day. I was hoping to get more done but everything was fighting me the whole way on the tear down today.

Tomorrow I plan to get the rest of it tore down.

Nice work! Sorry FordMan75, I forgot, are you dropping the '54 onto the F-350 frame? I might have to do the same thing to my '53 because my father welded a massive rear bumper to the frame and forgot how he has it welded. I might just end up cutting away at it until I figure it out. Though looking at the progress you have made, at least somebody's F-100 is gonna get completed.

I can see why it would be hard to remember what I'm doing! It's not like I change my mind much.

Nope I'm not using the F350 chassis basically just the differentials, suspension and steering. The 54 is going on the 84 F250 4x4 supercab chassis. The F250 is much cheaper to register and it's got a strong running 351W in it with a 4spd. I'm going to swap the F350 diff and suspension into the F250.

Just beware mounting the 50's cab on a newer chassis requires some body lift. Especially on mine with the tilt front clip. That's the biggest issue I've found out so far. That and needing a recessed firewall due to the short front clip on the F100's.

Well today I got the rest of the 87 F350 tore down and cut up. The amazing vanishing F350.
