Gonna have to get a new block if you want 500hp, unless yours isn't the stock GM block. Also gonna have to port the hell out of GT40 heads/intake to reach 500hp at the crank. With porting and a bigger cam like even an E303, 400hp at the crank is do-able and that's plenty of power for a daily. My brother just bought a '12 Mustang and even with the 305hp V6 that thing has more than enough power to get you in trouble, makes my Lincoln feel like a tractor trailer.

Okay, 400hp is cool, I have the HO motor from a Mustang in it so the pistons and stuff should be good, so I need to change heads, cam, intake, injectors, mass air meter size, and get a tune. I do want to go back to 87 octane in the future because the timing is advanced to require '91 at the moment, and I hope 400 hp is attainable on regular gas (haven't read up on it in awhile).
May consider a turbo or supercharger kit, if I can pick one up for a decent price. But I want the engine to be bulletproof. I don't want it to require a rebuild every 3-5 years or anything other than regular maintenance for the next 100k mi.
It already needs the timing chain (as it's leaking at the cover, but not too bad yet, got my eye on a double roller). So it makes sense to do all the work at once with that eventually. Cam/Intake/Heads/Tune, maybe even a stroker kit. Heavy Duty waterpump painted, of course, etc. I'll have the engine rebuilt if it needs it, or find a explorer motor or something else to drop in it if the price is right.
I was also reading on here that it might be better to just by some twisted wedge heads instead of going to all the trouble and expense of refreshing and porting a used set of GT40s (sorry, already got the headers and exhaust in place, not dicking around with the GT40Ps in there) and maybe even a new aftermarket intake.Last edited by sxcpotatoes; 05-29-2013, 02:23 PM.

The HO internals are fine, but from what i've heard the block is prone to cracking over 400hp. Not saying it will happen but it could. If you're looking for lots of reliable power you may be better off with a stronger aftermarket block with new forged internals. There's a guy on here who put his engine together with the Trick Flow top end kit, there's a thread on it somewhere so he could tell you if it's decent, might go well with twisted wedge heads.88 Town Car (wrecked, for sale)

Blah, didn't even get on it going through the train tunnel on my way to work last week, and got pulled over by the cops, so I had turbo mufflers put on. It's so quiet now. I probably got pulled over for the purple rims, that's profiling motherf------! Verbal warning only, but I kept myself from asking if he pulls over every motorcycle that drives through town for "equipment violation." Oh well, I'll go back to straight pipes if I get another car here, after I address the timing cover gasket leak. Or I may just leave the leak go and just put a bigger motor in and have the tranny rebuilt. We'll see.

My dad likes to tell the story about back in the day, they put sewer-pipe Y's on the exhaust, and just plugged the outside one, and then they could remove the plugs, and instant cutout!
The lincoln really needs exhaust soon, so I may just have them swap the turbo mufflers over to the lincoln, and put glasspacks on, since I have to be able to say FUCK YOU, lookie! mufflers! to the cops, if stopped. If I drive it around town I'll either have to idle through the tunnel or never accelerate (fuck you traffic, go 15 mph behind me!) when I see the cops (I did see him, I do look out). Or I can take the slightly longer, other way to work, but having the 3 cars removes the hotrod from daily driver duty unless one is in the shop.
