It would be ideal if you can present the "perfect one" in equal condition to your car to the insurance company. Tell them to buy it for you or give you that amount. Publications such as Hemmings, Old Cars, etc. can assist you on values. Do not give in to the insurance company. That is exactly what they want you to do. Also keep your cool when dealing with them. The hothead gets nothing.

I've been trying to keep my cool, it's hard, but I'm doing my best. I have $1000+ in receipts alone. It looks like the battle is winding down though. After enough complaining I think it's going to settle at $944. That's less $26 for the buy back and $200 for supposed front end damage that occurred before hand (That's total BS). The other guys insurance payed for the $217 for the tow and 1 day of storage though. Then maybe I'll get $250 in scrap plus maybe an extra 125 bucks from parting out what I can. Still after all is said and done I might have 1300 bucks. Yea I could get another one at that price but it would never be in nearly as good shape. It looks like I've run out of options

Well, I'm sad to say it's all over. The insurance company settled up with a check for $944. I junked the car the other day and got another $340 bucks. The part that really sickens me is how nice the car was. I could never get one with such low miles (66,900 when I got it, 91,600 when it was hit) for 1300 dollars. Yea it had it's problems (It had some rust on the bottom of the front doors, only noticeable when they were open and It still leaked a little oil, although I fixed all the other leaks about 6 months ago). The motor ran like a top and the tranny shifted firm and flawlessly though. Anyway here's some pictures for old times sake Click image for larger version

I stripped a ton of parts. Not as many as I would have liked since the junkyard deducts for stripping metal, but I took most of the interior, and all the lights, and some trim. Oh and the rear seat cushion too, so I can still sit in the car in a weird way. I'm not sure what's worth holding onto for the future and what to sell. I know it'll be many years before I get another box, but then again, who knows

Sorry to see that happened to ya. I lost my '87 to a dipshit driver awhile back. I know it sucks after putting in so much work on the old girl, but eventually you will find another one to love again. Literally over a million of these where made over the years, I can guarantee you that there is another mint low-mileage one out there for ya, probably sitting inside of some old persons garage right now.
