Steering wheel idea...

I am thinking about getting a new steering wheel. Couldn't in theory just get something like this and retrofit a mounting kit to it?

What is the spring for?

I would hit up local upholstery shop to fill in the middle of the steering wheel for about $150. Just an idea running through my head. I seen this steering wheel in my buddies Caddy and I liked it alot.

Wouldn't it be lots of oodles cheaper and easier to just buy an aftermarket wheel and get the spline-shaft collar for it?

I can't find any other wooden steering wheels that I like. I may have found one, but it would cost about the same.
