    HO Swap in stages?

    I was wondering if it would run ok to swap parts in i guess you can say stages?

    What i mean is, I know someone with a 87 mustang that swapped their heads\cam\intake and they still have their heads which only had about 15k miles on them. Can i swap just the heads and intake and run on stock pcm?

    Also they have stock pcm With speed density, but i'm pretty sure i would have to change the cam since the firing order would change. I am going to pick that up from him as well and search for a HO cam somewhere.

    Edit: I forgot to mention, i have an 87GM 5.0

    You can swap stuff in stages no problem, through you will be doing twice the amount of work, but you will be fine doing it that way.

    You can run the mustang heads along with the intake on a stock computer just fine.

    When you install a HO camshaft and stick with a stock LOPO computer is when you have a problem. I'd recommend changing everything in one shot so you dont have to remove shit here and there. Remember, once you have the full HO compete you would have needed the 19# injectors as well as a bored out EGR spacer to 63 MM and a mustang TB with your TB arm welded on in place of the mustangs.

      the HO ECM, cam, and injectors are what you have to have all together if you want to go full HO. It will run great with just the HO intake/TB , heads, and exhaust.

        yeah you can do that, but you have to pull the intake again if you change the cam. I'd honestly do it all in one shot if possible, just because of the work involved and having to disturb that stuff twice.;

          I'm pretty good with working on cars, also i was thinking just do the heads for now, and possibly swap to carb set up or MAF since if i'm going to take the cam out, i would want to put something good like a e303 or something.

            E cams come on way too late for a heavy car. You want something with a lower rpm operating range. I really want to try an XE258 in something, I think it would kick ass in a heavy car. If you're planning on going to a better cam though, save your bucks and get better heads too. Stock E7 heads are somewhat better than what you currently have, but they're not that great and don't really go so well with a better than stock cam. I'd probably start at the GT40 or GT40p level if at all possible. Its a much better head out of the box.
