    injected and exhausted

I've set myself up for another repair bill. Installed the new exhaust and essentially new injectors over the weekend, which means something else is gonna break.

Exhaust consists of 1 5/8" Hedman Hedders (thanks Nate!), a generic X-pipe (thanks to Eric and thanks to Tom for bringing it to me from Georgia), MAC Mustang flow tubes from Mustangsunlimited.com, the cheap $15 Summit turbo mufflers and Impala SS tails, plus misc extension pipes and turndowns as needed. Getting it all bolted up was a pain in the ass, those header collectors are big enough to make getting bolts into them rather difficult. Can't fit a socket in there, so I had to do the 1/4 turn at a time crap with an open end wrench. Exhaust hangs under there really nice, no low spots, no leaks, and I'm pretty happy with the sound. Its not loud and annoying, and the only time it drones is when I'm lugging along in overdrive around 45 mph. Since I don't really do that, its not an issue. Not much power change at the low end, a slight loss if anything but top end moves rather well. I think Scott has some pics of it which I'll try and upload at some time.

I also swapped in a set of injectors that I got from MrLTD. The off-idle hesitation/stumble is now completely gone and overall the throttle response is improved. I'll fill the tank up when I leave tonight and see if it sucks less fuel on the trip home. I'm hoping between the injectors and the exhaust it should do somewhat better. Intake vacuum is still somewhat low, 16" but I just can't find any leaks. I'm really thinking its just the heads are crap. Some weekend I'll bump the cam timing up, and down the road it'll get better heads.

isnt 16" of vacuum what an HO cam should pull? its definitly less than lo-po 21" or so.

with an HO cam, you should have 18-19" of vaccum at idle. 16" is too low.

What was your previous set up? Stock duals cause you have the tow package or what?

Zwack: Original exhaust was stock duals rigged up to work with the HO headers.

BoxMan: no problem man, wasn't a lot under the car I needed help with, just the occasional tool handed to me.

Nitro: Quiet is what I wanted. I was actually afraid these were going to be too loud. I wanted a bit louder than the Walker QuietFlow mufflers that were on the car but I didn't want obnoxious drone that would annoy me driving down the road. It came out just perfect, no drone and it sounds decent. I had it up to 85 coming home last night and its just quiet in the car. I need to fix the leaky door seals tho, the air noise bugs me. No noise from the motor tho.

I didn't even think about you having stock duals on the headers. How did you do it? I could do that to my wagon now that I have the parts!

I hacked the flanges to make it fit and had O2 sensor bungs welded onto the pipes. It works as long as you're careful with the O2 sensor placement.
