Does an explorer engine have valve reliefs in the pistons?

I thought these cams (the XE258 and XE264) had a higher rpm operating range. Maybe because I know Mike revs the crap out of his. I wonder how well they pull up over 5500? Do they seem to nose over?

I've been doing alot of thinking on cam selection lately. Mainly because once I baseline the engine in the tudor, I want to make as much power as possible with the GT40P heads. I think it may take a 3200 or so stall converter and some more gear, combined with a cam with a little higher operating range, in order to get the car where I want it. I know I'm going to need at least a cam and converter.

Nope 1500-5500... Mine is set to shift around 6K. I took the hit in the low end to get a tad more topend. Also why I went with the 2400rpm stall. It does drop a bit over 5500....Wait... I have a dyno somewhere on the site... http://grandmarq.net/vb/attachment.p...1&d=1228767322

In order to make good use of a cam that pulls hard up top, the car will need a much looser converter (so I can leave on the low end of the power band). I am trying to get in touch with a guy on that, although there are other OTS offerings that I have in mind.

Also, the stock goofy vb will never do. I'll need 5500+ rpm shifts, and full control. I like the looks of those SilverFox vbs, and they aren't terribly expensive, either. May have to look into those a little more.

                comp xe258

1st time post here, getting ready to go to newbies section. I think the 112 lsa is giving the rough idle, although 37 overlap isnt to much. A 114 lsa would lower overlap and help idle. The 5.0 ho lsa is 115, but.050 is about the same, 210 v comps 208-216? Whats the overlap on the 5.0 HO? Probably not muchless and they idle ok. Whats your vacumn at idle? HO are about 17 inches. My lopo 5.0 is 21.8. I reallylike your car, 91 merc

Just saying it doesnt sound like its idling that great under 1500 rpm. Even my 68 overlap 108lsa idles good at 1000rpm. Im going too a 60 overlap 112 lsa for better idle in my big block. I just think that tiny little cam isnt much bigger than a stock ho, except the much better lift. Lift doesnt hurt the idle much like duration & overlap. But fuel inj does seem to like lsa 114+ Guess we need to hear the video.

This is the worst this car is ever going to accelerate with a fullt tank, full trunk and back seat and 2 passengers and just 4000rpm shift points. I also couldn't punch it until I hit 30km/h or the rubber spins on the tar and chip road. I'll actually get some good vids when i get 2 seconds.
