been mostly driving the GFs 98 Escort wagon, but I've had the boat out for a drive every few days. did the usual oil/filter/lube today - I will not let a good car sit.

my new DD (96 grand prix coupe) is coming home this friday, so the boatbox will officially be retired as a daily driver. that's when the fun (and real work!) start.

Used this Turtle Wax ICE stuff on the interior and it looks great. Took the car out for a nice long run today. I think I need to start it more often because it sounded a bit "dry" when I started it..knocked a bit louder than normal then went back to the quiet lopo knock boogie.

I've never used any kind of tire shine. I'll have to check it out.

I do not work for Turtle Wax , this is an unsolicited endorsement

I used the ICE tire shine sometime in May before I went to Massachusetts and have not used it since .

I cleaned 20+ years of grease and grime out of a bunch of nooks and crannies in the engine bay today. Still only have most of the drivers side cleaned up and dirt/grease free. Mostly did around the power steering junk today. What's the purpose of the two piece plastic cover that is loose as shit? It doesn't seem like it protects much of anything. To clarify, I mean the plastic thing over the steering shaft. Top piece says TOP on it.

I didn't know you were actually supposed to be able to SEE the steering box. I assumed it was just there amongst the factory installed road grime.

Almost entirely great. The only issue at the moment is with the floor in the back on the pass. side - some surface rust inside because of the shitty weather stripping letting water leak onto the floor pan. Now that it's not daily driven or let sit in the rain uncovered, the weather stripping won't really matter. Externally the floors are fine, no rust...rockers are fine.

This summer I'm going to pull up the seats and carpet and kill any rust that might be living where I can't see, and use some form of rust proofing. I would like to put new carpet in but it's not in the cards right now...I'm just doing stuff that I can without spending any $$ right now. I'm gonna try to figure something out for sound insulation on the cheap as well but that's not priority. Given that the floor is fine externally I'm hoping I won't need to do any cutting/welding and the wire wheel will take care of it.

wonderful consequence of road grime: everything underneath it looks brand new after brake cleaner and paper towels.

that's the reason I don't clean mine... all that oil and grease protects the metal

oh... and I'm lazy that way. I'll fix functional stuff... but looks related stuff... I gotta get seriously bored.

Let's put it this way, if your car leaks or at anytime in the past leaked fluids such as oil, trans fluid, power steering, gear oil, your undercarriage will be nice and safe wherever there's grime, find a clean spot, and you've got rust and rot. That's why 95% of my undercarriage is great, and only a bit of it is rusty.

I have an oil leak at what I suspect is the timing cover gasket, but I needed to clean up in the general vicinity to pinpoint it. Not that it matters since all of those gaskets are getting replaced pretty soon anyway

Yeah, there have been a few oil leaks and a power steering leak since I've had it. I want to clean the grime and de-rust whatever I can, and rustproof it until it comes out my ears.
