    Need 1990 GM info wanted/questions

I got rearended the other day in my 1990 CV. The body shop says tha it will be totaled. I found a 1990 GM. I have questions.
1)It is white w/o clear coat. Is that normal? Did they not clearcoat white?

2)The FI look different than my CV. The CV has the Air filter housing on the 5.0 in front of the oil dipstick, and behind/above the power steering pump.. The GM in question has the air filter assy in front of the fenderwell on the drivers side, with the coolent overflow/fill tank attatched to the drivers side of the radiater shroud.

    3) When I started it up, it ran for about 1o seconds the stalled. I restarted and it idled for about 12 minutes then stalled. I was out of the car checking the engine compartment when that happened. I got back in and it restart right away. I this a issue that others have seen? Is i a finction of this type of FI?

    4) The rear speakers are gone ,my CV was missing them when I bought it. Any ideas why?

    5) What is the track record for the newer panthers with the 4.6 (since I know the sbf)? I remember the first years seemed to have spark plug wire breakdown in the spark plug boot when I visited Ford dealers to install/repair the SBDS systems.

The clear coat is probably just baked off, or it got a bad paint job.
Sounds like someone has already done one of our common mods to the car...
The stalling could be a lot of things... module going bad, bad connection somewhere, but Im sure its fixable.
You lost me on the speakers, but they are definitely something that often get removed from a car, especially before being sold.

        welcome to GMN

stalling can be a air flow sensor or IAC is my guess. sounds like the car belonged to somebody and radiator failed and replaced with one from a 90 or 91 towncar (cant remember which had the reservoir setup) speakers being missing make me think that previous owner had aftermarket speakers and removed them. the early 4.6 had issues with the valve guides and oil burning along with bad lower intakes

FI not Radiator is the question

The info on the radiator is all about the fuel injection. Even though the the GM I am looking at was full of coolent when the cap was removed for the radiator. Morr than I can say for the CV I have and the the GM before it.

The question is the difference in the FI. I will add photos. Shown are the 1990 CV. I will add the GM in a minute

i am guessing those are pics of your car that was rearended and not the Grand Marq you are questioning.

1990 GM FI pic and more

Okay here are the photos of the GM I am looking to passibly purchase. Notice how the FI is different.

                I have learned
                1) Make sure there is a metal retaining device for the TV Cable.
                2) Replace the egr when it ping going up a suden grade.
                3) The ignition module on the outside of the distributor will leave you stranded on the side of the road when it fails.
                4) how to change the turn signal, windshield wiper/washer, hazard switch.
                5) how to chang the wiper motor when high speed dies.
                6) how to change a window motor.
                7) how to get the radio out to change the display bulb.

Wolud like to know about changing lock acutuators, where to get parts?

oh wow, one of the super rare mass air models. Its a California car and it has a mass air meter instead of the speed density most got. Other than the mass air meter, there is not a lot of difference in the systems. The engines should run about the same, and no the stalling is not normal.

Lock actuators you can get on ebay. Fairly simple to remove, pull the door panel, then drill out the 1/4" rivet thats visible below the door latch. The actuator will come free inside the door. Fool with it until it unhooks from the latch and fish it out of the door. Unplug the electrical connector when you can. Install is the reverse, use either a 1/4" rivet gun or a short 1/4-20 bolt.

                      Now own

Yes I bought the car. It is as suggested a California car. It had been repainted white no clearcoat. Now I neeed to get speakers. Fix the front power locks. Fix the leaking vavle cover on the drivers side rear. Move the dome light with map light from the other car. Fix the dome light switch on the drivers side. Put in speakers. Change the oil and lube. Put a bushing to take up the slop in the TV cable attatchment after I put a metal keeper in to keep it from falling off. Move the power drivers seat over for the other car. Move over the turn signal/wiper/hazard switch assy form the other car. Alterator was dead when I went to pick it up. First stop after purchace was to buy a rebuilt alternator.

Anybody used a MSD-6 on these cars
