Been hearing about this site for a while and finally decided to join (yeah... I can be lazy). I've got an 88 Grand Marquis and 93 Vic. The 88 has all the toys since the wife drives the 93. I'll post about it all as I get un-lazy enough to do so. :smirk:

I call it a defect because there are a few (very easy too) ways to design the air vent so that it wouldn't leak the way it does and wouldn't need a gasket to keep the water out, just to cushion the plastic from the metal. Both cars have this issue and the passenger side floorboards are almost always wet (unless there's been a rather long dry spell of at least a month or so with some warm days).
I do wish ford had extended the intake manifold vacuum hard-lines to end edge of the plenum on the 5.0L to ease the replacement of the rubber lines (ie: wouldn't have to take the upper plenum OFF to get at the line clamps) and didn't make the heater pipe with a 3 inch segment of rubber on the 4.6 UNDER the intake manifold so that when the rubber breaks, it's $700 to fix it (mostly labor in removing and installing the intake manifold).

I rather like the land yachts though. They ride very nice and with the duals, ram-air (sorta) intake ala Home Depot, and wide range gearset (trans) on the 88, it gets off the line real well. Doesn't get very far before the weeny intake/heads choke it, but it's fun.

my car starts and it has AC. Yours doesn't start and it has no AC. Seems obvious to me.

They do have some design deficiencies to be sure, but find me a production car that does not. The point about the vacuum nipples being hidden under the intake is extremely valid though. Its a really damn stupid design, and its annoying to have to pull the intake just to plug a rubber hose on. That under-intake heater hose on the 4.6 is also really stupid.

I agree. My blew out last winter when i was stuck in the snow. Luckily, it only cost $20 worth of hose to fix.
