Yes...... the 351M and 400 Ford engines use the 460 bell pattern and can use a E4OD. You would need a torque converter from a SB E4OD tranny though, because the 400 uses a small block crank pilot hole. You would also need a 351W E4OD flexplate.

You have to have enough traction to break anything. You can buy a TKO off of the shelf rated at 600 lbs-ft of torque. 500 lbs-ft is the standard TKO.

That's what I'm riding on... I'm told by locals that I'm probably putting 320lb/ft at the flywheel and the T5 I'm using is only rated for 265 in a Mustang. It's fine for the one-wheel peel right now, but I do have a traclock to install.

Mercracer, think the T5 would hold up to spinning two 225 street tires in a 4,000# car?

Use a truck OD auto, the E40D IIRC. A built 400 is a beast. I have a 10:1 400 with headwork, cam, intake, and 4bbl. It moves our 79 bronco and 9K trailer with ease-even with stock gears and 33" tires!

It all depends on how you treat it. 225's are easy to spin.

my bone stock 82 302 2bbl would blow 235/60/15 BFG DR's starting off in 3rd gear in a 87 mustang coupe. T-5 and 4.10's. Would chrip every gear too. Put it in gear, release clutch and snap the throttle and it would chirp in 5th.

I just hope I don't snap this T5. That's my only real concern. If I do, I'll probably end up going with the FRPP rebuild as a patch until I can upgrade to a better transmission. Hopefully, the stock combo will mean it's not strong enough, but the local Mustang builder says he knows guys who snap 'em left and right without any engine modifications.

Alot of it is the clutch and how you launch and shift. A shifter with stops makes a big difference, and going easy on it launching will make it last. MOst of the busted T5's I swapped out over the years were from broken shift forks causing more damage.

My personal biggest annoyance with the idea of a C or M engine in one of these cars is the accessory drive. I suppose someone must make an aftermarket serp belt crank pulley to run some sort of modern accessory system on them. V belts are a pain in the ass. The taller deck height might be a concern too, would have to watch how tall of an intake you run for hood clearance. Could cheat and put a scoop on but I like the stealth look myself.

There are a few places that make an adapter to run a 5.0 accy system on them.
