    Electric Fan Swap

Im wondering what the best electric fan i could use, like out of a 90's t-birs or cougar? And how much HP i should gain getting rid of the old pully driven fan, and how to go a bout hooking it up

To hook it up you will need a relay to switch the fan, you can either get a fuel pump relay out of the junk yard or several companies make relays with thermostatically controlled switches. Ive got both of mine running on a Hayden fan relay, ive got mine hooked up to a switch, but you can have them come on when the ignition is in the "on" posistion.

I use a Mark VIII fan, fits like a glove. I use a Flexalite controller run through a relay, but will be switching to a DCC controller in the near future.

This is my main one, off of a 95+ Crown Vic.

This is my secondary pusher fan, it blows on the lower drivers side where the big one does not cover.

Here is my e-fan upgrade. I already had a temp sensor/relay system installed since I had an electric fan already, but the 05 Mustang fan fit much better, and cools a whole hell of a lot better.

Here is a pic after the radiator upgrade as well. Put it about as close as you can go without hitting the pulleys.

Is it possible to wire a fan so it can both come on automatically when you hit a certain temperature, and manually with a toggle switch for when youre at the track, so you can keep it on without running the car?

              but of course!
All you would need is one single-pole double-throw switch to toggle between thermo-comtrol and always on (and some wiring to go with it)

The Hayden kit I have allows both. All you have to do is hook a switch to one of the wires. Mine is hooked this way, but I don't think that it works properly

The Flexalite controller has a manual override connection as well.

Look at the 93 and up LT1 Camaro's and such.

They have dual electric fans, same dimensions as the radiators in box Vics.

I checked the measurements too... 28 wide, 18 tall, 5 deep.

Yea, it's a Chevy part... but it should work, lol. Planning on getting one myself here soon.

I got an electric fan out of an 88 Cougar for free. I haven't installed it yet because my father doesn't believe it'll work any better than the belt driven unit for the CV. Do you guys (and gals) think I need a secondary unit to push or pull air? Are there any noticable gains when you delete the belt driven units?

As long as you have a fan shroud that covers the entire radiator you will not need a second fan.

Correct. The Mark VIII fan moves like 4,800CFM on the high side, that's far more than the stock mechanical fan can move, even at WOT.
