Power windows work all the time? (already searched)

    Here's one for ya!

I been reading about everyone who has inop power windows, and I have one too (pass. front) No Prob. I'll get to it, it's winter right now, I don't need it down anyway.

But I have a problem that I have heard no one else talk about.

The three windows that work in my '90 will work at ANY time! Key on, Key off, in the switch, out of the switch, before you open the doors, after you open the doors. Hell I can shut it off, go inside, come out the next morning, hit a switch, and the damn window will roll right down!
SURELY it ain't s'posed to be like this!

The window lock switch wont change this at all.

    What gives? Any ideas?

It's not running the battery down, and, since they can only be operated from inside the car, I ain't worried about break ins, so it's really more annoying than anything.

Oh yeah, thought I'd add before someone asked....they'll work from the master switch on the drivers door, and they'll also work from each individual switch too!

Mine work only with the key turned on. Could be someone re-wired the power so they worked all the time. Thats really the only thing I can think of, the fuse panel has been re-wired or they tapped power from somewhere else. It didn't by chance have some fancy alarm installed at any time did it? I've seen real fancy ones that could operate the windows.

All the plugs into the acessory source panel look like they could be the same... maybe the one for power windows got removed and plugged back into the wrong one, like the power seats. They work all the time...

Hmmmm, I dunno about the rewire, my Grandmother bought it brand new and passed it on to my mom when she died, and mom gave it to me a couple months ago. I have receipts for everything ever done to it.

I suppose it COULD have been done, but I don't think it's likely. Do you think maybe that "Master Control Panel" or whatever they call all those switches in the drivers armrest might be bad or something?

Guess I shouldn't complain, after all, it was a freebie.

Where would this accessory source panel be?

          I'd like to check that.

well, in my 85 its behind the fusebox under the dash... nothing is labed, so good luck figuring out whats what if you dont have an EVTM and a test light.
Might be different for a 90, but heres a pic of what the 85's looked like

I wanna say the ignition switch might be messed (crispy and worn) and letting power go even with the key off but then you'd prob. have lots of dead batteries. But like 85crownHPP said, it seems more likely a plug got moved. Do your power seats still work all the time?

Well, except for some of the drivers seats gears being trashed, prolly dry rotted from it sitting so long, yeah the seats work like they should, as does everything else on the car...Well wait, the cruise does have a tendency to shut itself off when going up a long, steep grade. But I can live with that.

Cruise cutting off on long, steep grades is fairly typical. It's operated b engine vacuum on these cars and on long, steep grades vacuum is low or non-existant.

Power Windows working without the key sounds like a rewire as the others have said. Personally, I'd like that . I'm always cutting the car off before putting the windows up.

Yeah, the PW thing isn't really all that big a deal, except I can't lock 'em out and the kids like to play with 'em while we're going down the highway!
I prolly shouldn't even worry about it, but the wife says I am anal about things like that. (won't even let the kids eat or drink in it)

id check the master window switch panel. The power mirror and door lock all have 12v after key removal. maybe the switch got screwy melted.

My weather stripping is worn out a little bit on the driverside door. so when it rains it sometimes gets wet.

to get the switch panel off you gotta remove the lower trim around the door handle, should be a couple phillips screws. then pop the keeper off the door lock rod for the indicator. then remove the screw on top of the switch panel near the mirror control. slide the whole panel towards the dash and up and out it should come. enough for you to gain access to the screws which hold the switches and connectors in from under the panel.

I pulled some switches from the JY and most are corroded as mine. weatherstripping in poor condition aswell.

well thats how you get the panel out of my 87, your 90 might be slightly different, but should basically the same setup
