Did it have smoke coming out of the dipstick tube, too? It was a lot of smoke coming out of the dipstick tube on the '91.

The thing that concerns me about all this is that the coolant level in the radiator is dropping faster than normal and there are no visible leaks outside of the engine.

I could do an oil change today and monitor the engine closely for the next week or two, if that would be the better way to go. I just don't want to kill any bearings if there is a major internal leak.

if it was leaking that much coolant into the oil youd' know and would see it when you loosen the drail plug... once it settles after running, the coolant will pool in the bottom of the pan right at the drain plugs...

whats the new harmonic balancer for? do ours go bad?

The rubber in those balancers goes bad after awhile just like all the other rubber parts on our cars. It's just one of those things that when you've got it apart, you might as well replace it.

I've seen crankshafts bust on 302s from balancers coming apart. The outer ring can also spin, making it impossible to accurately set timing.

Hey, stupid question, but when's the last time you replaced teh PCV valve? Could it be that that has quit working and it's just not pulling off the condensation anymore?

                  *whips out record book*

'91 got a new PCV, screen, and grommet on May 4, 2006.

Going to do the oil change, new fuel filter, and bypass the EGR coolant lines today. Will let you guys know what happens.

Bypassed the EGR spacer coolant lines. New fuel filter is in. Oil didn't have nearly as much moisture in it as I had expected. Had a fair amount of white come out with the oil, but I guess it's only enough to justify condensation. I'll have to make a note to change the oil more often in the winter if this issue persists. Btw, the '91 had only got about 700 miles since the last oil change (back in Nov.).

Question, Do you use Any oil additives/Or put any sort of Teflon tape on your drain plug?

I just thought about it. And membered something simulare happening With mine.. Due to those two reason + Condensation hehe. Made me worry.

1 qt. Lucas with every change on this car. Plugs are not leaking, but should probably be replaced sometime soon.

After one week of driving since the oil change, I've found the following:
                          1. The oil appears to be clean.
                          2. The oil filler cap is full of milky residue, again.
                          3. The coolant level has dropped down about four inches.

When your coolant drops does you oil level go up?

have you had the lower intake off recently? do your plugs look normal?

Oil level doesn't seem to be changing. Nothing noticeable, at least. This engine has never been pulled apart, as far as I know. The oil is staying clear and the smoke show seems to have disappeared (just checked it again tonight). No other abnormal behavior other than the rough idle after it's warmed up.

Since the car is parked outside in an already messy parking spot, there's no real way to tell if it's an external coolant leak without poking around. I'm just going to keep a close eye on the car for now and keep driving it.
