    AOD hop-up

Since I've been out of the Ford building game for a bit now, I'm having a tough time remembering the easy upgrades for the AOD...

I plan to run a B&M holeshot 2400 torque converter, and TCI shift kit with hi-rev, but I can't remember what servos to upgrade and what parts to use... was the A+ OD servo?

So, the question is, where do I source the OD servo and the TCI Hi-rev/shift kit? I can find the TC easy 'nuff, but not the other stuff.

Anyone got any other suggestions? The trans is rock solid as it is behind the lopo CFI, so it should last a little while before it grenades with a little power...

As far as VB's go, I was looking at the LenTech Street Terminator valve body. It's a completely reworked VB, with a pushbutton activated OD like an E4OD or 4R70W. Worth looking into!

Hmmm... does it then allow for manual 1-2-3 shifting?

Yes. With the shift pattern altered to have O/D as a separate button, full-manual control is available.

Concerning the A+ O/D servo....do you plan on going with a wide-ratio planetary set? This will involve some of the guts out of a 4R70W, and require that you move up to a 2" O/D band...which means you won't necessarily need an A+ servo, but can suffice with a regular Thunderbird Super Coupe 'A' unit, if you happen to find a used one cheap.

Otherwise, Performance Automatic or LenTech can set you up with most everything. If you do plan on building an AOD, I'd snag an 89-up AOD case, as the 88-down aren't my first choice for building a high-performance AOD.

Personally, I'd recommend adding a LenTech VB just as Tom suggests, or just pony up the extra money, and simply buy a complete LenTech tranny suitable for use with the blown 306 you have planned. Of course, this might require that you use a LenTech convertor, which isn't a bad idea.

The optimal Lentech trans runs $2800, the VB about $550... I wish I could, but...

For now, let's focus on making my stock one a tad less pathetic, build the rear end, engine and try to grenade the stocker. Then, I'll have a great car needing a trans, rather than a great trans needing a car.

Anyone have a good source for the TCI H-R shift kit?!

            Okay... I'm dumb again...

After poking around a bit I now see that the kit I'm looking for is the transgo AOD-HP.

Also, no one has much good to say about B&M converters...

$2,800 for a beefed up Lentech trans with converter?? sounds like a good price to me, considering cost of a re-build/mod and the price of additional hi-po goodies. Do they offer any kind of warranty?

I saw pics of one of their highly polished AOD's... mmmm... good luck keeping it shiny lol

I'm not saying it's a bad price... a 2008 Dodge 3/4 ton 4x4 with a HO Cummins and 6-speed with 1000 miles on it for $20,000 is one hell of a steal... that doesn't mean I have $20,000.

And when the hell did you convert your car to SEFI?! The CFI guru sold out! lol.

that's kindof my style. Ever since I first found CVN all those years ago- I come around and stick like glue for a while, then I'm a ghost for a while, lol. It also has a lot to do with internet connection. I'm having an easier time getting on the internet in the middle east than I do in Florida. But that could be due to the fact that there's nothing better to do here.

Even more expensive, lol! Plus I want to be able to take it to the good ol' 1/8th mile track up in Holt on the weekends and my drag racing experience with T5s is really, really bad.

clickclickracing.com has a sticky with a big list of assorted AOD upgrades written by a guy who builds them. He also sells an overdrive lockout type valve body for something like $250. I'm strongly considering buying one, but it will probably depend if I can move my current valve body from the Towncar to the Mark VII to fix a wonky shifting problem the VII has.

I can definatley say the A+ servo is a waste if you do a WR.... I've got a A servo from my old build and OD is the harshest shift on the trans.

The 2" overdrive band with a stock servo should give plenty of clamping force. The A or A+ seems more targeted for either crazy power builds, or stock OD band usage to get more force on that smaller band.
