Hey guys, had a question and didn't want to put up another thread to crowd the place. Can any harm be done if the crossover pipe between the cats is missing, and there are just small holes where it attached on either side? Aside from exhaust coming out from under the car, that is.

Have you considered getting a pair of 45 degree elbows and just skipping your muffler?
I know you said they frown on no mufflers.....but as long as they see I tailpipe I doubt they will check. Your cats should keep things quiet enough and this way you won't have an exhaust leak.
You said you could get new exhaust from the manifolds back....no cats...so just wait till you can score some mustang shorties and have those put on together with a cat-less dual exhaust system.

I'm asking because there are two holes there. It's loud and sounds better but I don't exactly mind

Well.....I had one of those rot off on an 89' F-150 (1st cat acted as a Y-pipe). I drove it like that till I could get it fixed. Didn't seem to hurt anything.....and yes it did sound nice......truck was a stickshift too....which made it even more fun.....
I figure it's a taste of what it's gonna sound like without cats when I do a full exhaust - I'm gonna do it the preferred way, Mustang bits and pieces with nice mufflers and tails
