The merit Enforcer II's on the 91 were cheap and are quiet as a mouse.

Magnaflow is a good choice. Not exactly what I would call stock sound level, though. Great muffler for mellow cruising/idling with a nice yowl at WOT, I say. Post up a pic of it if you can later. I'd like to see how they cleaned the area up.

I just made the most ugly cut I've ever seen! I just cut the damn thing off and now its just hanging there... Is there another hanger on the front side or is it just mounted to the heads then block?

Oh, and I can BARELY notice the difference. My trans is on its way out so I don't get on it and drive really slow and it definitely freed up some power so I dont have to even rev it up as much as I did before and since its such a low tone rumble I can hardly hear it! Totally awesome. With a little bit of music I dont notice it at all.

I was worried that it would wake the neighbors when I get up early for school but it makes barely anymore noise than it did with the muffler.

I'm thinking I'll get the tail pipe piece since its only like 30 bucks then getting a straight pipe to go from the cut to the tail and call it a day.

Starting it does sound sweet though...h

Hey, if the sound level is acceptable (and it probably is with a single exhaust), no muffler usually is the cheapest muffler. Except for those silly muffler-replacement S-bends they used to have for Mustangs that cost a whopping $100 each ... that was just weird. :p

It really is and I totally recommend it to others. I'm sure I would hear more if I got on it so I guess its a cheap way to get a little more sound on the cheap and it really did free up some power or something, it gets moving a little quicker. It is also possible that the smashed pipe was cutting my power and I just noticed the difference though...

I'd probably consider dual exhaust if you can swing it. It will give you some more power. It doesn't have to be loud either. Two stock mufflers won't be any louder than one stock muffler.

will duals without a muffler be as quiet as a single without mufflers?

Duals without mufflers will sound like ass, just as a single without a muffler will sound like ass, so... yes.

I agree with Gadget- go duals if you can. It'll breathe better and sound better without getting obnoxious. I had the $26 packed Summit mufflers on my old Town Car and loved the sound- super quiet at idle, but definitely there at WOT without at all being any form of loud. I plan to run Summit's welded mufflers on the wagon, but I expect they'll be louder than the packed versions, being that they're chambered and not packed. We'll see, but it'll be a while before I do that so it may not help you any.

When my 85 had just a single strait pipe it sounded great... not too loud, no obnoxious back-crackles or raspy crap-pack sound.
I think the stock size full tailpipe helps keep the sound down a lot.

My 2.5" dual Summit Turbos are still kinda quiet until ya give it gas. At some point, I'm gonna get some glasspacks to stick at the tailpipe to quiet it down a little bit more.

scratch that, it didn't sound 'great' with a single strait pipe ... it sounds 'great' now
It just didn't sound bad. I actually want to strait pipe the p72

Hard to say about that. He and I drove all over downtown one night, and all I could hear was his car over the POS. Even with the windows up. This was before the POS was quieted/detuned. It was pretty damn loud, mang.

I'm probably in the minority, but even with the stock cats, I think no mufflers, dual or single, is pretty loud. Even with my glasspacks, there are times when I think my car is too loud, especially outside of it.

I hate even moving my 92, with nothing after the cats it's ridiculously loud.

I always thought the 5L was pretty quiet and driveable without anything after the cats.

Then again, the exhaust in my truck is damn loud, and can be even louder with the cutout open. There is plenty of resonance to buzz the interior trim, too.
