    alternator question

    Hey guys. I just repaced the alternator on my 80 two door. I took it to Advance and had it checked and they said it was bad. So I got a new one on there and my alternator light is still on. I unhooked the battery cable while it was still running and it tried to stall out immediately. Something is draining my battery and I dont know what? Anybody have any other ideas? My battery is good by the way. It holds charge preety good until I put in this car.

    when the light is on, the charge circuit is not completed and you're running on battery power alone...the wire feeding the warning lamp is the green/red wire coming off of your alternator. is it a 2g or 3g generator?


    test voltage at the output stud of the alternator with the car running, then test the voltage at the battery or starter solenoid (wherever your alternator is connected)

      have you replaced the voltage regulator? checked the wiring? the connector at the regulator can get green and fuzzy

      1986 lincoln towncar signature series. 5.0 HO with thumper performance ported e7 heads, 1.7 roller rockers, warm air intake, 65mm throttle body, 1/2" intake spacer, ported intakes, 3.73 rear with trac lock, 98-02 front brake conversion, 92-97 rear disc conversion, 1" rear swaybar, 1 3/16" front swaybar, 16" wheels and tires, loud ass stereo system, badass cb, best time to date 15.94 at 87 mph. lots of mods in the works 221.8 rwhp 278 rwt

        It was the Voltage regulator. I took the one off the 91 and put on there and that fixed it. Only think it needs now is some tires and I could drive it. Seems funny to me that it has 14in tires. Must of been another cheap option. LOL.

          yup the other ones had 14" wheels standard, lol. So did my '77...

            New alternator did not come with a voltage regulator??? Interesting.
