    It's wandering more like .2 or .3 v.

Looked on Rockauto last night; I can get one delivered for less than twenty bucks. Will order it today...

Okay! Got my replacement TPS. Had a minor difficulty installing it; the plug was a bit bigger than the original. So I cut the wires and spliced the original plug onto the new sensor. (Shouldn't be a problem, right?) Got it installed, and adjusted...

...No difference on the problem I'm having.

At least I know it's new and shouldn't be part of the problem.

Wondering about that code 14... Not sure what it points to. Does it indicate an issue with the ignition module, or distributor?

So, I cleared the codes, started it and ran it for a little bit (a minute or so), then checked for codes again. It gave me no codes now...

I think that code 14 was a Continuous Memory code from who knows how long ago.

Don't know where to go next.

it can throw 14 sometimes if it stalls.

So you get just 11 now?

Have you checked the fuel pressure? It should be somewhere around 35 psi if I remember. i think the CFI cars ran a bit higher than SEFI, but I don't remember exactly what it is. Test port should be right in the top of the CFI unit, looks like a valve stem. Are the vacuum lines all in good shape? These run real stupid with vacuum leaks, especially to the MAP sensor over on the fender. Can you verify if the timing is correct? Stretched chains and incorrectly set timing is fairly common on these. It should be 10 BTDC with the SPOUT connector unplugged. The SPOUT is the black single wire connector hanging out near the ignition module.

Did you have a parts store check the ignition module?

My personal guess is that the choke might be stuck a little bit. Is the car ever hard to start when it's not warmed up?

The car is never warmed up. It won't run at all unless the gas is being feathered...

                        Ignition module tested as functional.

Still have to test the fuel pressure. The loaner Fuel Pressure Tester from AutoZone has a problem. Going to see if I can get another...

Could be a carbon clogged EGR valve and/or channels. Fairly simple to clean out....EGR is mounted at the rear of the CFI, has to be removed to clean and to clean out the 2 channels that lead into it.

CFI EGR clogged open seems to be a common issue. many folks just eliminate it or add EGR cleaning to the maintenance list.

Okay. I'll add that to the list for Friday.

I'm drifting more and more toward thinking it may be a fuel pump issue. I really don't want it to be a fuel pump issue...

Also, when I replaced the TPS, I'm not sure I put the spring that holds the choke connector thingie back on right. Can anyone find a picture that shows it clearly?

Did you check with a volt meter to make sure the TPS is responding smoothly with throttle action? Did you try cranking up the idle stop screw for testing purposes? It works just like it would on a carb. Also, what kinda shape is your vacuum line going to the MAP sensor? A bad MAP can make it not want to idle. Maybe it is only responding to the surge of vacuum it sees when you open the throttle - when you try to maintain a constant rpm (in neutral) the vacuum drops off.
