    just took some time looking at the block in the car...

    Some previous owner fucked the hell out of that engine. I doubt I'll be able to use that block for a backup engine like I had planned.

    The engine in the car has been honed, poorly. there is taper at the TOP of the cylinders, which means they used a 3 prong hone and pulled it out while still running it (big no-no). The headgaskets are just plain the wrong ones. Most of the water jackets are 80% covered by gasket material. I'm thinking this engine has been overheated very badly.

    It's also no wonder when I fixed things that were rigged it ran worse.

    Nice...

    Not as bad as my 2.3 turbo motor. Looked like someone beat the deck with a ball pein hammer. About 1.5" of the top ege of the one cylinder was fucked up and let the HG superheat and detonate.... The shit people do...

          some of the gaskets have different size holes for different ports, to attempt to flow the water better to the entire engine. i think its poopy, but i dunno.

              You think thats bad, check this shit out. I put in new axle seals in my 62 GMC because they started leaking, this is what I found




              Someone pounded the shit out of the bearing retainer and the bearing putting it back on. They even managed to dent the axle pretty good where the seal meets up to it. I looked inside the axle tube, at some point in time, the rear axle had failed, and the axle came out of the axle tube while the truck was driving around. I could see where the splines from the end of the axle had chewed up the inside of the tube. :nonono:

              On a side note, don't you have to pull the pumpkin cover and remove some C clips to be able to remove the axles?

                The axle in the picture does not have C-clips because it has an external axle retaining flange. You could have said that the axle in the picture was from a 9" and at a quick glance, it would be believable.
                There is no retaining flange on an 8.8 or the other axles that use C-clips.
                The other thing about an 8.8 axle is that the axle is the inner race. There is no bearing retaining sleeve like the axle you are showing in your picture has.

                  That axle isnt for a ford. It's for a classic GMC.
