    remote mount TFI heat sink

did the 94-95 mustangs have them???

becuase I was looking under the hood of an aerostar today, and it had a kewl looking finned aluminum heat sink that its TFI module was bolted to.
I think Jonnie is the only one here with that ignition setup... think you could use it????

Where did Ford put the TFI with the heatsink in the engine bay? Perhaps it's hotter there as compared to other applications that did not have a heatsink?

Yeah, Ford changed the TFI module design some where around 90-91. 94-95 Mustangs are remote mount, as well as the 90+ T-birds and cougars. some of the trucks and vans got it too.

in order to make the change, you need the correct distributor, wire harness and TFI module. by going to the remote mount set up, Ford eliminated the 3 prongs off the top of the module, that would normally plug into the bottom of the distributor.

Or you could make your own. The one on David's car was made with sheilded and the correct type of terminals to plug into the bottom of the original distributor, then connect to the prongs on the top of the TFI module. The module was mounted to some chunk of heatsink material Scott dug up.

Same with mine, it's just on a chuck of alluminum over on the fender. I don't think it's that sensitive, it's not bolted to the engine anymore, so they are pretty much fail proof. The only reason they died before was heat and viberation.

Hmm, maybe it's time for me to dig out the one I snagged from some Taurus last summer. I have more space on the left fender, thats where my coil is already, and that's where some of those wires go to anyhow - seems like it'll be nice place for the TFI as well.

Give them credit though, they typically last 10 years in that enviornment...
