    Vent windows?

My '90 Vic has one piece side windows, and, being a smoker, I'd really like to have the triangular vent windows, some call them "wing windows" I have power windows, so it'd be nice to have the ones that roll down before the side window does.

I know it's probably a gay thing to do, but it'd be awfully handy for me.
Anyone ever do this? Would it be just a matter of changing out the glass and regulators?

If it means swapping out the whole door...forget it.

only ones to have power were towncars - if all that will swap in who knows. the doors are different, so the glass might be too.

Vic and GMQ vent windows have either turn knobs or pull latches... but yes Im sure they are swappable. Possibly only the glass and vent/frame (which is also the guide) need to be swapped

Figures...nothig is ever easy is it?:smirk:
guess I'll just pop for some of those chrome vent visors.
I think they'd match the car better'n those smoked plastic ones.

If you choose to do this, post some pics as you're working on it. It's in my car's future plans to do the same...

Man I love my Town Car. Most of my friends are smokers and they worship that little window in the winter. If it's possible, look into swapping the power ones in... you won't regret it.

Oh, if I do it, I WILL do a write up with pics. Looks as though it may be a no-go though.

However I may try and go with manual vent windows if I can find out if they'll work with power side windows.

However, if I have to change out the entire door, I ain't even gonna mess with it.
BTW, I like the wheels on the car in your sig!

CheeseSteakJim, that's the setup I would prefer, but I don't know if it'll work, still researching it.

                Here's an idea:

Take an 80's Town Car's window regulator assembly, motor, smoking window glass, and the window guide that's directly behind the triangular window... then take the larger pane of glass out of a Crown Vic with the vent window, and see if you can't mix, match, and modify to get everything to fit. Pretty much the only thing you can't screw with is the glass itself. If you try to cut or drill it, it'll blow up.

That would be a somewhat decent amount of work (probably a few afternoons once you got all the parts together), but VERY interesting to read about, especially if you actually pulled it off. I'm eager to see what you end up doing.

It might work that easy... I just dont think anyones done it to say for sure... you can definitly have the manual vents with power windows, thats the way some of them came.

Oh, and you dont have to worry about swapping doors, the towncar ones dont even fit and wouldnt match the lines of the car if they did.

If you do manage to get Towncar drop vents in a non-Towncar, we definitely want info on how to do this.

Looking more like it'll be GM vents rather than Towncar vents.

My only beef with the Town Car vents is that since they go down instead of turning, they don't guide the air into the car, so you can have them down and still get virtually no air flow. If you just want an opening to dispose of ciggy ashes, they'll work fine, but don't expect them to work as nicely as turning vents. I don't smoke, so the ones that are on my car are basically worthless as far as I'm concerned.
