Nothing special, they have one-size-up larger valves (1.85 vs 1.78 intake, 1.55 vs 1.48 exhaust), smaller chambers, and pretty much bolt right on. I would get a set of hardened seats put in, teflon seals on the intake valves (not needed on the exhaust side) and possibly screw-in studs and guideplates (requiring hardened pushrods). Check rocker arm geometry after everything goes together, I have had to put in different pushrods twice, once shorter, once longer.

This was the WRONG vehicle to do this to.
The nodular iron carrier is worth good money today, even with all the aftermarket units available.

Definitely the wrong vehicle to do it to. But, how much more fun was it due to the fact that it was so unsuspecting?

Obviously it was alot of fun if you haven't ruled out building another one!

I would definitely redo the rear suspension first, before anything else. I was also looking into dropped I-beams to lower it....but maybe someday.....

What is that, some sort of van?

My dad had one almost exactly like that, cept it was a glittery green color. Transmission shop he took it to fucked the transmission up (they didn't know how to work on one apparently, and used old parts and charged him for new ones), and he got rid of it.

I'm encouraged by your description of how it ran.

I have a set of freshly redone, D00E heads, that were ported by an old timer who knows his stuff. I forget the cam specs, but according to desktop dyno it was supposed to make a hair over 400hp under 5000rpm with almost 400 ft lbs of torque. Using a stock 91 351w bottom end.

Of course we all know that desktop dyno is notoriously optimistic. I'd be satisfied for a torquey 300hp. I've never gotten around to putting it together though due to time , and lack of gumption. My main concern has always been whether the stock bottom end will stand up to it, or should I go ahead and beef that up too?

Also, I'm keeping my eyes open for a good c4 as I really don't want to keep feeding it AOD's. Besides it isn't going in daily driver or a car that gets taken on many long trips, so mileage isn't a huge concern.
I had originally planned on putting a t-5 behind it, but figured that was a good way to break a t-5.

I remember this van. I thought I commented on this though. Did you have a cover over the engine or did it poke through the floor like that when driving? The Moose Van huh? Maybe older brother of the Possum Lodge van?

Well, a guy i did a little feature on is running 550hp and 570tq to the wheels on a stock '93 351 bottom end, if it makes you feel better.
