3rd gear is always direct drive in a 4 speed overdrive transmission. 1:1.

No carbs!!! I have a GT40 intake with your name on it if you have the cash for it haha.

I'll be started out as an 'Express Lube Technician' which from what I understand is the 2nd to lowest guy on the totem pole. But what's nice about Pepboys is that they'll pay for any extra training and will pay for me to get my ASEs (both entry fee and test fees). The more ASEs I have, the more money I'll make. And with those certifications, I can get bumped up to higher standing technicians. Maybe even one day a bay of my own, with a tool box about the size of a refrigerator.

Just don't develop any unrealistic expectations. I'll leave it at that.

EDIT: you sound pissed, and rightly so. 'Sins of the previous owner' doesn't begin to describe it.

Wow those wires were certainly crusty. I just had a similar issue on my S10. IMHO you should lay off Matt a bit, you bought that car as is. There is a tactful way of pointing out things were done wrong.

That would be my "yay" censor, replacing something negative with something positive.

                No pun intended.

Let me make something clear though; I'm not criticizing the PO of my car for not making it in proper 'sellable' condition, I'm more taking a stab at obvious 'duh' moments where it would have made a whole lot of sense, as the vehicle owner, to fix a problem that's right there in your face. You know - like replacing frayed wires while the motor's out?

                *sigh*

Anyways, how does she run, guys?

why is everyone so against carbs? with the shit electronic parts out now, i have a hard time trusting EFI. i just had to re and re the pick up sensor/coil in the dissy on my bros town car. i replaced that thing in august. and it already crapped out.

but anywho, its a good thing that your trying to make the car more reliable and less fire prone.

i knew the wires were in bad shape. i just never replaced them. one thing on my to do list that i never got to on the car. though never had an issue of it stalling going over a bump either. the trunk muncher should be hooked up asap dont need the trunk flying open on the freeway.

that motor was out i believe in 2010. at the time those wires did not look like that they were cracked but not peeling aprt showing bare wire so i didnt replace them at the time. now if the wires were that badly falling apart then that had to be an oem battery cable and thanks for the video cause i am gonna look at my towny's cables. i think there fine becuase she fires up very quick but i will check to make sure. also always have that little wire coming off the negative terminal connected that is the ecm ground. if disconnected the car will backfire and sputter like hell. been there done that when the connector broke off on me and at wot the car would backfire and sputter feeling gutless. does it still hesitate when giving it gas or does it run fine now since the new cables put on. also at wot does it feel like it gained much more get up and go without bogging.

Guys. Is there any manual HVAC arrangement that was offered from 1979 onward?

yea but, the only thing that was manual, would be the heater blend door. everything is still vac operated. my car has the "manual" heater controls.

Good enough for me. Once I'm under the dash, I'm going to try to simplify and convert as much stuff over as possible. It's not funny how much the voltage drops when stuff's trying to run.

Still a lot of fiddly junk, but it's a step in the right direction. I like the idea of older stuff that looks to have manual cables to control everything.
