351? Hah! 408 if things turn out my way.

Anyways, find the nearest mountain road, so I can show you how a true driver can make that Mercury dance.

So I take it (probably skipped over it) that this car will receive the frame fix it deserves? If so, good to hear.

No duh, I'm weary about doing any heavy-duty driving in the CURRENT suspension setup, much less fitting this car with aftermarket springs. I just need to find a good frame shop. Once the heater's done, I can focus on the framework.

              One mod at a time.

ever thought of a frame swap? just saying. i dont think we ever got pics of the under side of the body, so i dont know what is the rust situation. a frame swap is pretty straight forward but may be a bit time consuming. that, or cut a the peice you need from a j/y frame and chop it in to your car. also sounds like you got lots of little repairs before any mods. once you get everything sorted out, you will have a decent cruiser.

The frame is actually spotless save for that one rot HOLE in a vital section of it. I personally believe it would be less wasted effort to patch that section - or bolt in a plate - than it would to swap the entire damn frame.

Of course, if I can get a roller frame for cheap ( < $100 ) then all bets are off.

Being a northern vehicle I would be SHOCKED if it were only rusted through in one spot. Perhaps there is hidden damage you haven't gotten to yet. Always thought "rust" was an equal opportunity terrorist!!

nah, mine was rusted in the same spot and I've spent HOURS trying to poke other holes. It's solid everywhere but the one spot that had a largish hole.

It's normally rotting around the AC evaporator drain.

Natural spot for rust but I would think it wouldn't be the only one - just the major one.

I can't believe how awful this engine really is... or at least, the ECU.

I spent a good hour trying to get it running and it did all SORTS of weird shit. I mean for real. Like, would only run if the starter is engaged.

SOMEHOW I managed to be able to limp the car home. And now it's stuck in high idle... right after I replaced that shitty alternator!

                              *headdesk*

when you replaced the battery cables and terminals did you remember to hook up the little wire that use to be on the old ones. that is the ecu ground if that breaks the car will run like utter shit at wot it will sound like misfiring and not accelerate Been there done that.
