I'm back! and with my new '75 Lincoln Mark IV

Wow, its been a while, but its good to be posting again. I've got a new Lincoln now, I bought it for $1500 from its second owner in Pasadena, CA. He was 82 and couldn't really drive that well and his family wanted him to sell it. His wife thanked me when I bought it. I assured him that I would take care of it and I gave him the full $1500 he was asking, I just couldn't bring myself to try and haggle on the price.

They told me it had over 200k miles, the odometer reads 75k. The guy told me that "one time I drove it straight to Cleveland" and "it was the prettiest car in all Pasadena". The 460 runs great I haven't had any issues with it, so far I've changed the oil and replaced the plugs and wires. It really needs some new shocks up front, and there's some rust holes that need to be patched.

It only gets about 11 mpg, but I just love to drive this thing!

All right, here she is, I still haven't decided on a name:

It had those aftermarket hub caps on when I bought it, I found some original hubcaps but two of them won't go on the wheels.

I have the aftermarket hubcaps back on it now.

It has a trailer hitch, but I don't think that it's original.

    The clock still works!

Here's the worst spot, its also below the back window, under the vinyl, under the other opera window...

and there's a small hole behind the back tire, probably from water getting in the trunk, I really dig that trim though.

The awesome 460! Since its smog exempt now in CA, I'm going to remove the cats and all the other smog equipment.

What is that canister on the air cleaner?

If that thing has 275k on it, its a very gentle 275k. I dont know that I buy 75k, but 175k I might. Still it looks like it was taken care of fairly well. The interior isn't shredded, the chrome is still shiny, and the engine isn't a giant blob of disgusting grease.

Nice machine. An afternoon with some mild cleaners and leather conditioner will make a big difference inside. I'm with Gadget, 175 seems more likely.

Good to hear you're going to de-smog the engine, mid 70's engines need all the help they can get plus will probably burn less gas when it's not choked up. Also I wish I were closer to you, i'd give you my lace spoke wheels off my 88 Town Car since I assume you're going to keep it looking luxury, and if I end up not selling my Lincoln i'm going the other way toward hot rod

But i'm jealous, really want a 2 door.

Aw, thank you for the offer, maybe when I'm traveling that way some day. I'd love to take it on a full route 66 trip, I traveled part of it with my merc. I'm going to give it another detailing again, it was really dirty when I bought it, the white in the interior was a light grey and you couldn't see the blue in the engine bay. Leather conditioner really brought back those seats. I don't plan to change anything except removing the smog the smog system and some repairs here and there. Luckily I have a friend out here that can help me with that. I wish I knew for sure how may miles it has, just so I could keep track.

You're right, you really don't see these cars around here, I think I've seen two maybe in the past year, a black '73 in Orange County and a white '73 at the Pomona swap meet. Anyway, I'll be sure to keep you guys up to date this time!

Towncar wheels have a ifferent bolt pattern if I'm not mistaken. I think the barge were 5x5, the Towncar is 5x4.5"

yea, barge lincolns have the same bolt pattern as the F series trucks. Would look good with a set of stock set of chrome rims from like a '95.

Interesting, though it makes sense, what do those look like?

I took it to the Pomona auto show today, here it is cleaned up and with the old hubcaps:

There's this sticker on the inside of the drivers door, it looks like it had 88k in 1985:

That's full of win. The most awesome car I ever owned was a 76. I believe it's very similar to the 75, I still have the factory manuals, if you end up needing anything scanned drop me a line.

                          Love the old AAA sticker!

I love the '70s Lincolns (see sig), nice find! Yup, that car has the Lipstick Luxury Group. If it's smog exempt, do that 460 a favor and ditch the factory intake/carb. An Edelbrock Performer intake with a 600cfm vacuum secondary carb will wake that motor right up! No sense in going with more CFMs on stock heads/internals. Go for the pre-'73 timing set too, brings the powerband back down for better low-end (smogger 460s had a several-degree retard in the timing set to lower emissions).

People have asked me that same question about the canister on the air cleaner housing many times. It is a resonator designed to quiet the intake drone. Almost looks like they made it out of an oil filter can On the '76 T-bird I had, I removed it and cut the hole bigger for a second snorkel tube. That car was a dog but it sounded nice under the hood

I should have kept the stock air filter housing on my truck, because I had the same idea to make a dual snorkel tube housing like the 305 HO Camaros. Looks like i'll just have to get a cowl hood to vent the engine heat out...

But yeah the dual snorkel would be cool, looks better/symmetrical rather than one tube which makes the engine more showy. It should look great with the emissions stuff gone as well, clean up the engine bay with some of the hoses and whatnot gone.
