update: new fuel tank in and pump works good i added a 1/4 tank of gas and it ran fine no leaks yesterday i added more gas up to 3/4 full and now i have fuel leak its dripping down on the fuel tank strap im wondering where its leaking its not the fittings since that would be leaking even at a 1/4 tank. before i go and pull the tank back down could it be leaking from the valve on top of the tank its got a rubber hose that goes to it. do they sell new ones and also where would i find one. i reused my old filler neck grommet since i cant find new ones. any help would be greatly appreciated. i noticed that when installing the tank back the straps where a bitch to get back on i got them on but the nuts that screw on the stud from the body arent flush to the top of the body. i reused my straps since the dorman straps would not work with my spectra f17 fuel tank. i still dont get why i cant tighten the nuts all the way to the top like factory was.

i noticed there had to be a fuel leak because once i opened my storage unit i smelled fuel i checked the fuel gauge and it was at half a tank instead of 3/4 like i had it last. also the lock ring to install it you just hammer it around until it hits the groove on the tank which mine are there tight because the lock ring started to gouge the metal where it seats i dont now if i have it on too far or where its suppose to sit.

One thing I learned when replacing the tank and /or straps. Put a thin piece of rubber, like a piece of bicycle inner tube between the strap and tank. This helps to protect the tank from small pin hole leaks due to sand. This may not be your problem however remember it if you drop the tank again.

could it be the sender/pump seals?

Im going to go on a limb and say its the fucking lock ring for the fuel pump i think i might have over tightened it causing it not sit right since the tabs on the fuel tank where locks into are now bent upwards at an angle Instead of being flat like they should be i guess the little indent in the lock ring that looks like a hump needs to sit right in the hump indent on the tank. I looked at my photo of the install and its past that hump meaning i might have pushed it to far. I can't seeing the new gas tank being defect so i have to drop the fucking tank again.

Did you use a new rubber O-ring when you had the fuel pump out of the tank? My experience has been that when the fuel pump is out, if you try to re-use the old O-ring, leaks are inevitable. Most new tanks come with a new O-ring and lock ring anyway. Best of luck to ya
