    Ashtray Light

I'm having a small problem I'm hoping you guys might be able to help me with.I can't get my Ashtray Light to work,I've tried 2 different sets of bulbs and still nothing.Checked the Fuses and none are blown, all the other lighting in the car works:lighted visors on H&L,Dome and Map Lights, glovebox light, both floor lights, and all dash lights, just can't get the ashtray light to work. Last time I was under the dash I did'nt see any frayed wires or disconnected grounds.Does anyone know were the switch is located that turns on the light when you open the ashtray?Maybe I've overlooked something,Any help is appriciated.

Your light turns on when you open the ash tray? Mine lights up when I turn the marker lights on, it's just hard to see it when the tray is closed. Dunno why yours don't work though...

Maybe not,I've never had a working ashtray light in one of these cars,I just thought the light would have a switch to turn itself off when the ashtray is closed, like the glovebox light does.I went out and tried it again, turning on the markers and headlamps with the key in the acc,and on position, still nothing.

Though,if the ashtray light is supposed to stay on all the time when the marker and head lights are on that kind of makes me not want to fix or keep it,as I sometimes store stuff in the ashtray space that could be damaged from the heat the bulb would constantly give off.Anyone know if the ashtray light is supposed to stay on all the time when the markers and headlamps are on in the Box Vic?

Also, no the ashtray light is only supposed to come on when you open it, in a CV/GM.

Mine only comes on with the dash lights, like when you turn on the headlights/parking lights. I tapped the wiring for my gauge lighting.

TC ones have no switch in the ashtray, so they're hot all the time when the lights are on. They also have a metal shield over them so they burn out real quick. None of mine work, all the bulbs are silver from them getting hot and cooking to death. I dont smoke so I dont really care if they work or not.
