And with the 90, 91 cars, beings that I have long legs,I keep hitting them into the dash. But to be fair, anytime my wife takes my car, I have to remember to move the seat back first, or I end up cutting my right knee on the 4-way/hazard switch. What F@&^$#@ genius decided to put it there!!!!! Must've been a midget.

I bolted a piece of thick rubber, bigger in size than the speaker, to the door frame in the location of the door speaker. Then i installed the speaker. The rubber protects the speaker from the water. I was really glad my dad thought of that. I will snap some pics. It is really good to have to protect from falling water NOT water that is pooling from drain holes being clogged.

Here are some pictures of the protected speaker.

Speaker removed and rubber in the background.

Me showing you the hunk of rubber.

A view from inside the door with my finger pointing to the rubber.

View from inside the door with speaker protected by rubber.

The three bolts to secure the rubber.

One of the best things that was done to the car is all i have to say.

Swapping out the old speakers in the car definitely makes a nice difference if you decide to retain the old premium sound system. The speakers in my car were all replaced back in the 90's and the stereo still sounds pretty good given its a stock radio from the 80's. They do sell those foam bucket sort of things that you can use to protect the speakers from water in debris.

With my car, I think I finally dealt with the main leak in the pass footwell, between messing with the fresh air intake, the door hinge & bolts, and door weatherstrip. Now its pretty much my drivers thats perma soaked so I'm going to try some different things. My leak seems to be coming from behind/above the sound deadener behind the gas pedal. I'm going to:

          -Re-clean the cowl area.
-Spray some Eastood Rust Encapsulator over the cowl and then re-seal with seam sealer
-put a nice gob of butyl rubber/firewall sealant over every single gromet I can find
-put more seam sealer on the door hinges since they seemed to have bent/pulled away a bit (gotta love tudors)
and put some butyl rubber around the door wiring where it meets the body.

I should follow your procedure as well.

I must have gotten lucky, because my Merc doesn't leak a drop into the interior, except when water is being driven through the sides of those damn vent windows. Vent windows blow!

My LTD on the other hand I've spent around 20 hours of work fixing leaks, got most of them stopped, but I still can't find or stop the source of the leak into the B-Pillars and front seat rear crossmember.

Yea finding leaks is a pain. I thought i had a leak through the emblems on the vinyl top but it turns out to be a leak near the opera window. It is not leaking through the window where it seals but between a metal to metal joint. I have to reseal that. Its pissing me off. I hate water leaks.

I had a leak in the pass side opera window. The butyl rubber the glass seals against shifted and started letting some water trickle in. I used some black silicone when I fixed it but next time I'm in there I'll see how it's holding up probably use some more of the butyl rubber. One place that leaked like a lot were my tail lights All of the gaskets between the lens & housing and the whole assembly and body had deteriorated and let a good amount of water get in.

No tail lights problems for me yet, but i am pretty sure that i found the leak by my opera windows. It is indeed coming through a metal to metal joint. A very larger gap to be exact. I cleared out the joint and stuffed black silicone on it. I think it will do the trick. Months ago i killed a leak on my passengers side window as well where it was leaking through the butyl rubber (slowly like you described) as well.
