More mods/repairs to come....Damn old cars

Had the car on the lift this morning. Found a few things...

Radiator is leaking at the petcock.

Body mounts are completely gone. Can see the wearmarks where the body and frame have been going their seperate ways

And a good sized hole (quarter) and crack in the frame at the bulkhead where they all rust out.

The good things are that when I fix the stuf fthe frame will be much better and stiffer. The frame and body will be as one, so less shuddering as they move seperately. And the new mounts will make the door gaps and bodylines much better by getting rid of the sag.

I wonder if that could be related to the autocrossing

I was going to replace the body mounts on the front of my car, but they are siezed like a bitch. 3 days of soaking in PB and they wouldn't budge. One even has a socket rusted onto it, and I can't even get that off.

What I want to know is what are you using for body mounts? Mine are shot too, my front fenders dance a lot.

I've got body mount issues too, big surprise. Probably part of why everything rattles the way it does. Any idea when you're going to do yours?

So are you going to make some aluminum bushings for the body? That would work great for for you use the car for.

Nope, some poly that is a slightly higher durometer than the stock rubber.
The car is also my cruiser, so no aluminum mounts.

                      Got those part numbers Scott?

Also, slightly off topic, do you have the part numbers for the oil pan plugs? I need the ones that don't use a gasket. The emo fag at AutoZone was useless.

shouldn't need a PN for oil pan plugs. Most are just 1/2-20 threaded, and some later ones are like 14mm. I had to get metric plugs for the pan I got for free with the Exploder motor. Just gotta browse the replacement plugs till you find the right one.

Well, broke more stuff today. Steering column broke. And found that the u-joint in the column was worse than I thought. So I have to pull the whole steering assembly from the steering box back to the wheel out and repair/replace it. Friggin sucks.

If you were closer I'd offer to give you mine, but I removed the whole shifter rod and all out of it anyway.
