    Welcome.

03 was a good year. Only issue I can think of is the soft rear axles. If they haven't already been changed, save up for a rear end rebuild just in case. If you've got over 100K miles on that car, the axles have probably already been changed for the better ones.

Also the Lighting Control Modules are crap. Ford extended the warranty for 03 and 04 models to 15 yrs 250,000 miles. Limited to a 1 time only replacement. This is good but the warranty only applies to the headlights, not all the running lights which sucks because the running lights are just as likely to fail. You local dealer may or not take care of that case under warranty for you.

          Great car. Gs, LS, LSE?

Howdy! Timing chain tensioners may be an issue too. Great cars

It's the ls. I've got some reading to do. No timing chain noise or lighting issues knock on wood. The automatic climate control is however acting up. I'm going to try to replace the o rings in it as some others have done.

Yeah I was actually thinking about it. Leaning towards an oil type product vs spray on undercoating, the kind you apply yearly but don't know which one to choose. The car is absolutely rust free everywhere.

Not only that, but it's the last year before drive-by-wire IIRC. DBW doesn't use a real throttle cable, it's all electronic. Increasingly popular in modern cars- even the SRT Viper uses an e-throttle. Most of the late whale owners I've talked to prefer the pre DBW models, mainly for throttle feel/response.

And +1 on the soft axles and timing chain tensioners.

'05+ went Drive-by-wire, '04 still safe. I would avoid the tar-like undercoating, one of my previous '91s had it and the water swirled up and rotted out the brake line up by the front of the driver-side door opening.

How did I find this out? Some asshole cut through a yield curve at a red light in front of me (no way he looked at all), I slam on my brakes, and the pedal goes to the floor, barely slowed enough not to smash into his rear bumper.

The car came with it, and it was up along the frame rail where it rotted out, I say go with the yearly oil/diesel fuel underspray. That way it gets coated each and every year, and you don't have a false sense of security and stuff rotting underneath. Plus, it's like $50 for the oil spray if that. I gotta get that done on both cars when I get back from Texas with the '82.
