    This is a stupid question

I bet it's been asked before, but I don't remember seeing it recently. Anywho, what's the difference between EFI, CFI, and Carb? I know what the difference between EFI and Carb is, but not EFI and CFI or CFI and Carb. So basically what does Cfi stand for and how does it work and relate to EFI and Carb?

    CFI is Central Fuel Injection...
it's much like a 2bbl carb, only instead of barrels, it has injectors.
whereas EFI has the injectors in the lower intake manifold, spraying directly into each cylinder.
I consider CFI a hybrid between EFI and Carb. "Carbureted Fuel Injection" if you will...

Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) is a general term that covers many types of fuel injection, like Central Fuel Injection (CFI), MultiPort Fuel Injection (MPFI)and SEquential Fuel Injection (SEFI)

a carb is just a carb... no relation. The VV carb was an attept at an electronicly controlled carb...

Some people refer to sefi and mpfi as the same thing, but are they different? Were the 86-91 5.0 engines referred to as MPFI engines and the newer panthers 92+ use SEFI on the 4.6?

I'll ask the stupid questions around here, son. JK, love how no one here judges when someone like me posts dumb questions, or the same question multiple times (short term memory prob.?).

i think MPFI is different from SEFI in the way it fires the injectors... I dunno when it changed

MPFI just means multiport fuel injection. Its actually what GM called thier system. SEFI means sequential EFI, which means the injectors have a firing order. Each injector fires when that cylinder is on the intake stroke. There is also batch-fire injection which also uses 8 injectors. Ford trucks use this system. The injectors are wired in banks of 4, and they alternately fire.
