oil pump went out on my tudor...

i was on my way home from work and the engine light came on. then the motor started knocking, tapping, and squealing. i think the motor is toast. i wish scott or someone else lived close by to help me w/ my situation since i cant afford to lose time at work. my blue 4 door is having transmission issues. it is running great except that it doesnt like to shift into 2nd or 3rd unless i floor it and let off. my panthers bit it at the same time. i am gonna have to try and find a motor and get my transmission into a shop. i dont wanna get rid of them, but if finances dont approve i might need to get an aero vic. figures that i can keep up on oil changes, and do everything i can and still have my panthers fail at the same time.:bs: i cant deal w/ this being both down and out at the same time. i might be able to come across a motor which is easier for me to deal w/ than the tranny. i am gonna check to see if i can work something out w/ payments for the tranny. i just hope that i dont have to start over and get different vics.

Usually oil pumps don't die unless they bind up and snap the pump drive shaft. Pull the distributor and reach in there with a pair of needle nose pliers. If you pull out a piece of what looks like a twisted up allen key, the pump jammed and needs to be replaced. As long as the engine was shut down as soon as you noticed the idiot light, you can probably get away with running it for a while.

well, the motor is toast in the 2 door. i am willing to swap motors from my 4 door. i refuse to get rid of my tudor unless i get a great offer. my 4 door has the previously salvaged title so i can part w/ it. i hate thinking this way but i am needing another vehicle since both panthers let me down at the same time. nuthin against them, but i need to make room for another car, and will have to scrape for cash for repairs. always ends up being the small things that turn into the giant headaches.

swap the motor, only cause its a 2 dr. Tranny swaps are much easier tho.

Did you try bumping up the tv pressure on the tranny on the 4 door? Might be too late but its worth a try. I would set it as close or at the tv max setting, it will be harsh into OD though. 3rd gear barely worked in my car and it shifted poor, shuddered, etc until I bumped up the pressure to almost the max setting.

I wouldn't scrape the 4-Dr. Lets say you pull the motor to put it in the 2-Dr. Now you have a motorless 4-Dr, with a sketchy tranny and a salvage title. You won't be able to get $50 for it. I say transfer the motors, but save the 4-Dr for a later project.

you sure you just wasnt overheating?

i drove a cadillac yesterday and the damn thing started knocking and the temp light came on... let it cool down and it was fine afterwards.

on the vics, the engine light is also for temp.. and when cars overheat, they tend to ping which can be mistaken for engine knock
