Anyway I can tell for sure? The only way I've been able to tell is my tripminder and my fuel gauge. When it's on E I've used about 16 gallons of fuel.

drive the car until it runs out of gas, and it'll take about 18. There is usually some reserve capacity in the tank once you hit E. Under normal circumstances, it'll probably never take much more than 16.

that was from a 1980 manual I had laying around actually..

I'm pretty positive that they are all 18.5 gallons or 20 gallon. ford just rounded up and says 19-20.

Owners manual from the 81' CV I had.

I'm gonna' guess that the sedan tanks are all the same "size", but since EFI cars (I have no idea on CFI), have the electric fuel pump mounted in the tank, it's obviously going to take up some space.

When I bought my 91' it was on "E".....went to fill it up.....only took 16 gallons......so I was like WTF!!.....great the guage ain't accurate.

......Then I looked in the owners manual.

My car's never taken more than 14 and that's with the gauge on the wrong side of E. Oh well.
