charcoal canister. it collects vapors from the fuel tank and feeds them back to the engine via manifold vacuum. that's about all I know about 'em, no clue how to troubleshoot one other than checking lines for leaks, but that's the canister they're talking about.

                no. that is not it.

The canister is underneath the p.side fender near the front of the car behind the bumper tucked up out of the way...basically underneath the battery.

I doubt that is the problem.

The soup can is a vacuum reservoir...the existence of which baffles me. That's not the problem.

Well considering your other post... maybe? lol. How's the rest of the car though? Does it look nice?

You're ahead of the game being able to roll down both drivers and passenger windows... just kidding ha ha.

It would be good to get the car up on ramps or stands to inspect for fuel leaks.

Smelling gas out of the side windows and in the trunk likely means you have a real fuel leak somewhere under the car. Fuel lines (they rust and leak), gas tank (rust - hard to see sometimes), or a fuel filler neck could be to blame.

Do you smell it when you open the hood?

almost every panther i have ever seen , if your smelling gas has almost always had a gas leak somewhere. and there is a difference between running rich and fuel leak smell , but what your describing does indeed point to a fuel leak.

im gonna go with the fuel leak on the car somewhere. if this is the case, not really a big job to fix.
