    Wtf?!

OK so i finally went to install my nice shiny painted frame/crossmember support bars today...the first one went up no problem...however the drivers side has an issue with the emissions pipe coming from the cat....

has anyone had this issue? i tried loosening clamps and bolts to move it around and even tried to bend it a little with no luck... and no getting rid of that system is not in my agenda as of right now.... any ideas??

    PIX!!

i hope from the pictures you can see what im talking about..

Just mash it out of the way with the support and bolt it all up. Oh and do you have a tranny cooler? If so can you please send me a picture of where it taps into the radiator?

No. I had no issues with clearance whatsoever. But I would bolt up one end of the bar and try and push the bar into position and then bolt the other end. Keyword "try" as the injection pipe may be very ridged like you mentioned.

And awesome. I am trying to see how the bends are on the stock cooler stuff coming out of the radiator allowing the cooler to be put in line with everything.

It'll run but I don't know how even it will be since one bank of cylinders exhaust flow will be without obstruction while the other has a big ol' converter on it.

or use a jack with board on it to lift the pipe in that area instead of attempting to hit with hammer since it would be difficult getting a good swing

good ideas, only problem is having it break right off the cat, big weak spot there... if there was a way to secure it to the exhaust pipe itself to keep it from breaking that might work..
hmmm a C clamp MIGHT work..

I know you said you don't want to, but remove the system unless you have to have it there for visual inspection. It's useless, and pretty damned easy to remove.

Cut the pipes going to the cats, pinch the pipes closed and weld them so the cats don't leak, and remove all the piping trash, including the diverter valve. Then, remove the pipes going to the backs of the heads, cut the little plate where they attach off from the pipe, flip it over and bolt it back into place so it doesn't leak out the heads.

If you're really ambitious you can remove the smog pump and put a shorter belt on to run the air conditioning. For a 5.0 it's a 560k6, but I dunno if that's the same for a 5.8.

Trust me, you'll love the extra access you get with the shit out of the way on that side of the engine.

Or wait to put the bars on until you have a new system. The car has survived almost 30 years without them, waiting a little longer isn't going to hurt anything.

Not sure which set of bars you have, but some have a little kick to them, and some are straight. I suspect the kicked ones are to clear something. Dunno, they came on my car and cleared the factory air pump bs. I haven't had that for years though, and nobody has ever said anything about it when I had it inspected.
