Replaced the EGR valve, the original one decided to die at some point in the last 10 years (lol). Also replaced the dizzy vacuum advance vacuum switch (black), coolant high/low sensor (gray with green plug), and the EGR vacuum switch/mid temp sensor. The vacuum advance vacuum switch had partially separated and was creating large vacuum leak. Replaced some vacuum lines, including the parking brake release with a NOS find.

At this point i believe all the major vacuum leaks are taken care of (there were a LOT), and i hope to be getting better fuel milage! We shall see. Here's a picture for fun, yes not everything is back together in the picture..

I've always considered your car to be one of the most unique, cool rides on the site.

              Very nice!

Thanks Tom! That means a lot, especially seeing how many awesome rides are on GMN!

I forgot to add I installed a new motorcraft 190 degree thermostat and radiator cap as cheap insurance as well.

Cool beans, man. Those switches always look so impossible to get off, and the wiring so brittle, that I've stayed away. Did you have any trouble finding those parts?

Yeah, I should probably replaced the plug connectors as well, if i can find them, as you can see they broke a little. The parts were actually really easy to find on rockauto. They came on a lot of different vehicles apparently, they were fairly cheap too (Compared to newer vehicle sensors).

If you have a hand vacuum pump it's pretty easy to test them.

So I went to a local autoparts store to pick up some engine primer today...as I was pulling out I hear a strange sound, my first thought was a leaf got sucked into the blower motor....Then smoke started trickling out from under the hood. I quickly pull back into the parking lot and shut the car off.... I opened the hood and immediately saw a melting/burnt wire near the cowl, one with a fusible link. I made sure the car wasn't going to catch on fire and drove right home....I believe a piece of the wire had cracked and come in contact with either the brake booster or the hood. It's my understanding that the fusible link should prevent this from happening.... I cut out the bad section of wire and replaced it.

If I hadn't noticed it the car could have caught on fire... Makes me a bit weary of the rest of it

PS. The wire went to the solenoids that control the smog system

                            I'm just that good! LOL

Yup, ford blue. will match my valve covers! I was considering going the darker ford blue, but decided against it. Pretty sure (from what i can tell from the old, faded, peeling engine paint) that it is the correct color.

In addition to the water pump timing set etc waiting to be installed, I'm getting a few goodies for my birthday. New 11" motorcraft drums, shoes, hardware kit and wheel cylinders. Along with some things I couldn't help but order due to their closeout cheapness. 2 new TRW upper balljoints ($6!), gates upper rad hose( $5!), motorcraft vacuum ignition advance (8!) and a neg batter cable (3!). Plenty to do this spring.
