Alright, let's get down to business. My Grand Marquis, for what it is, is a pretty decent handling little automobile. Compared to its rival at the time, the GM B-body, the car's stability is far ahead of its GM rival. That said, it's capable and tuned for a comfortable, VERY comfortable ride, and a decent enough ability to get out of danger's way if a situation occurs. Like an emergency lane change, or a panic stop.
For me, that's not enough. I view driving as more than just a cruise from point A to point B. I like taking back roads, I like carving corners, I like feeling truly alive behind the wheel and one with my machine. That would explain the reasoning behind the 3 GT cars I've owned in the past (a Genesis Coupe R-Spec and two different Supras). At first, I doubted much could be done about the car's handling - then I took a ride in 86VickyLX's '86. Whoa. I wouldn't call his car a track monster, but she can dance if you lead her.
That's a box... but the parts are interchangeable, right? I don't know all of the details - that's why I'm creating this thread.
The idea behind this thread is to gather information to develop a handling package that will hone and tune pre-'03 Panthers to their maximum capability on the street - and maybe even on autocross or track day. I'm including brakes in my search as well - pretty much anything that isn't crazy enough to mandate a frame swap or permanent frame modifications.
Bolt on is the idea. With any luck, I, and anyone else who visits this thread after the upgrades begin, can carve their cake and eat it too.
Let's begin. I'll take the first crack at improving the car's handling here...
-'98-02 Police Interceptor brakes - what's needed for a swap other than just the pads, rotors and calipers - and can I go bigger, without going 100% custom?
