Cam swap parts list and such

    What I have so far:

    Comp Cams camshaft-
    INT/EXH 254/262 (advance duration)
    Duration @ .050 210/218
    Valve lift .477/.493
    Love separation 111.0

    Things I need:

Valve springs, retainers and locks (shims?)
    Lifters (summit)
Timing chain and gear set (summit)
    HEI distributor
    Oil pump?

Anything I'm missing to do a cam swap? I've already got all the gaskets and such. I've got a few suggestions on valve spring, locks and retainers, anyone else have any suggestions? What are is the diameter of stock valve stems?

Cant put an oil pump in unless you have the oil pan off. I would do a water pump though since you have to take it off. You'll also need some assembly lube, and I'd suggest the handle from a drill or something to use to thread into the end of the cam to use as a handle to install it.

In that case, is there any particular reason you're not planning new rings and bearings and valve seals at the very least? A rering can be pretty cheap if you hone the block at home and don't have the rods resized, etc.

I have all that cept the timing set and lifters under the hood of the linc at the moment, including the same cam. The springs are Crane's and are good for .550 lift. The distributor is a duraspark and works just fine with a $20 duraspark box from the parts store. The oil pump in a new melling unit that we put in when tom was down here last and it didnt help the motor so that and the ARP shaft has just been sitting in the engine since installation

RIP Jason P Harril, we'll miss ya bro

Seems like it would be cheaper to buy the valvetrain stuff than it would for the heads + shipping.

I'm not doing a rering or any major work to the engine, it doesn't have any more than 90K miles on it.

Was that cam recommended by Comp cams or did you pick that out yourself? I called them last summer about choosing a conservative performance cam that won't be too much for a two ton car. They recommended that I get part # 35-349-8. This cam has an .050 duration of 212int/215exh, valve lift of .512, and an LSA of 114*. I like the numbers on your cam though, I would think that would work better on heavier cars like Panthers.

Phayzer suggested it when I asked around, he had it in his Lincoln when he had the 302 in there.

When i got the e7's, the guy had just installed some crane springs that were good to .550 lift and hadn't run them yet. So i had the machine shop go through them and a bit of grinding in the ports and i put em on the car. I dont have any part numbers or details for ya
